It's actually a stronger rod than most other big saws. Racers who run stroked 3120s will swap out to an 084 connecting rod since it is much stronger than a 3120 rod.
No objections there at all, I am sure Stihl knew what they were doing when they came up with that con rod design.

I just never saw a con rod looking that skinny/hollow, that is all. ;)

I wonder if they are made by Mahle? Seeing that Mahle made some jugs and things for Stihl.

I've never understood the logic in using vegetable oils but to each his own.

Not gonna defend it, but here is a little logic in it; petroleum bar oil used for milling can cause some serious woes to the finisher of a woodworking project. If you're blocking up timbers for a log cabin it's one thang. Furniture grade stuff for a Cherry kitchen table top is another. Canola will react with the compounds in the wood, glaze up and sand off. Bar oil penetrates and can always be seen by the trained eye.

The 028 Super is made that way too.
