Saw came to me in with scored piston and cylinder and in horrible shape. I tore it apart and used a hotsy to clean it. Flushed the crankcase and lubed the bottom end bearings.
Cut the cylinder base and flange .050 and set the port timing to 100/120/76. Installed a new base gasket and Meteor piston. Pressure and vac tested. No leaks. I’ve ran about 1/2 tank of 90 ethanol free at 40:1. Piston is clean as you can see in the pics.
New fuel line, filter, carb kit.
200 on compression

The bad.
Tank is leaking along the seam I believe and will leave a small puddle of fuel overnight.
No ground wire for the coil. This coil was from a 395 and the coil will not ground out. Must choke it to kill it.
Several bolts are mismatched and been tapped to a larger size. Top cover bolts are all good. Starter cover and handlebar mounts are the ones that had issues.
The divider is from a 395 I hogged out and used since the original one was missing.
I might be missing something but I think that’s the majority of it.

More pics. Any questions please ask. Piston is clean. I think that is reflection from the lights.

I recall running my Stihl 084 against a Husky 394 at a GTG and he just barely won as the top eliminator, but he did it. I was running stock and he later told me he had muffler modified his 394 with a skip tooth chain and was using airplane fuel (mixed of course). An Aussie bought the 084 Stihl from me (powerhead only) for $1500 shipped. Here's me warming up:

It was an adventure I will never forget.
