Sadly that thought process is too damn prevalent in society today
My dad lives by that.
He had to have everything, farm, land, animals - till there was no one left to do all the work.

Now he needs nothing but YouTube.
But the idle properties still need maintenance which he of course doesn't care about.

Our landlord (56) is a youtube expert. He relies on it for everything that he doesn't have experience with.

I've tried to correct a couple of his mistakes before making them, but I'm just some "kid" (37) who doesn't know anything, soooo........boy was he surprised when the septic tank floated and turned upside down!

tired....i would go right now if i could. but i have a few years to go still.

My father spent 35 years with Heinz. He worked for them when they were a great company that cared about folks and took care of everyone. He was eligible for retirement at age 50 since he had 30 years in but just was not ready. He wanted to get to age 55 and 35 years. He had became frustrated with the company and the last couple years were rough. Their busy season was July through late September when they took in raw tomatoes. He planned to leave them right after his 55th birthday which was in the middle of August, during the busiest time. He spent 33 of his 35 years in management and knew leaving right in the heart of tomato season would crimp them. I was working there that summer. On his final day we walked out together. He said "son never walk back into that factory" I was at work the next morning.

None of my fun projects ever last. My workhorse and normal ones do last.
I had a dirt bike, during previous ownership we think snow/ice got into clutch cover and that’s what busted the cast aluminum off the motor that holds the magneto on, also had many other problems but that was the main thing, there was no fixing it.
I had a zero turn mower. Turned out the transmission were bad. So was the deck but trannys were the big issue.
My RER mower converted to go kart lost compression shortly after I bought it, put a new motor in and turns out I was lied to about how good it runs and the mowers drive belt snapped then. I’ll fix it.
There’s more.
The stuff I actually use to complete tasks works out, when I try to have fun chit it’s the fan and ony work out lol.

I just bought out my brother in law of the house my wife and I live in. If not for that I and needing medical insurance I would just go. I screwed off and didnt plan for the future when I was young. I worked but, lived like there wasnt a tomorrow and have had a life filled with living. However I dont have enough saved to cover my needs. So off to work I go......no regrets

Sir,
Do not ever look down on yourself for one second.
Had I stayed in that factory I would be retired from there myself. I did not
Had I listened to Dad and stuck with my federal job instead of wanting to teach....I would be retired.
Had I stayed teaching in Iowa I would be 2 years away from retirement.

Never look down on oneself. You did what you felt was best at the time.
The windshield is always bigger than the rear view mirror for a reason.

thank you. i need to be told that sometimes. i try to hold myself to an unrealistic standard most of the time. I have been working on giving myself a break and letting go of that crap for years. the only thing i really regret is the way i treated my family.

I know exactly how you feel.

Here is a random thought for anyone blessed with young children teenagers, adult children, parents, hell anyone they love. This song is even more applicable today then when it was released close to 50 years ago.

Spend 4 minutes listening to it.

I’ve head the term “the cat’s meow” but a few days ago I heard someone use much different wording but meaning the same thing. My neighbor came up to me while we were putting the new fuel pump in my Silverado which has a heavy duty aluminum bed cover. He says “I’ll tell you what man, the bed cover is the RAT’S PUSSY, if my truck was worth putting it on I’d make ya on offer for it.”

Never heard that one.
