Meh, if it was a 33xx 35xx or 36xx it would have north of 100K hours without even blinking….17,089 hours is a really good life for a 3408 without tearing the bottom end apart given the angle between bores on that engine.

Stationary application on Nat Gas, Stationary on diesel fare the same, I would question the entire maintenance program with those failures…3408s have an inherent problem, and it’s the 60 degree angle cast in the block. They had a nasty habit of snapping cranks in trucks and dozers, the aforementioned came out of a D8L, and it lasted almost twice as long as the first engine in that dozer. They were fine as a marine engine or generator application, but the bottom end usually failed well before its time was up.
I’d love to see a 100,000 hour 3508, 3512 or 3516 that hasn’t had any bottom end problems in that application, the original D11N had a 3508 and they sure didn’t last that long at 770 horsepower.
I think shaking it all about is what it’s all aboutWhat if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?
