That's a very nice offer, but in all honesty I prefer a spring steel for knives. These knives I'm making for the raffle didn't ever require a temper, I did do an oil quench with them, and it's sufficient enough to hold a nice edge. The real test will come on Saturday or Sunday when I carve with them. Going to whittle down a 4.5' chunk of ironwood for a cant hook I have laying here at the shop with them to test their mettle (pun intended).

Here's some progress pics.....

Some incredible curly maple splits from a huge tree we dropped a few years back. I have a whole pile of these splits upstairs in the barn for projects like this....

I already have the handles turned out of that maple pictured above and MAN, is it incredible looking wood!! I'll be doing the final details on these knives tonight, and I'll post a pic of them completed tomorrow or Saturday....
Those will look amazing!! I need to send you some Myrtle splits to try out

Yes it should!

I used to CNC program a lot of plow cutting edges for various types of earth movers and snow removal equipment.
Plasma or oxyfuel was the only way to work with it. Couldn’t cold bend it without stressing the material.
Another good knife making item would be used grouser bars off a dozer......I think so anyway.
Try hammering on the end of that stuff and then filing or grinding. Tough stuff! It literally case hardens the outer jacket.

Common, captain and coke was my favorite back then
Beer.
Old man Casey, the bar owner back then, @ Casey Place told us in the old days if you could see over the counter, hold your liquor and pay your bill, your fine here. We were 15-16 he knew it. Most old quiet places like than are long gone now. The old time atmosphere and local vibe can still be felt in few far flung places deep in the South Jersey Pines.
