The drawing date is 4-2-18 but just because that is when the raffle comes to an end doesn’t mean we have to stop helping the Miller family.

Are used snow plow wear bars/edges any good for making stuff like that? I snagged two from the scrap pile at work... they are not carbide... just some hard and not flexible steel. One was from the shop lot plowing quad and the other was off of a coworker's Dodge plow truck.

I don't know if shipping them to you would be feasible... could be done but might cost a lot for a full length wear bar.

The Dodge wear bar is about 3/8" thick, 3 1/2" wide, 7 or so foot length... I do have a chop saw that could cut them into smaller pieces, which would make shipping easier since we could cram them into a flat rate box. If you want a sample to try hammering on, let me know... flat rate box is our friend here...

That's a very nice offer, but in all honesty I prefer a spring steel for knives. These knives I'm making for the raffle didn't ever require a temper, I did do an oil quench with them, and it's sufficient enough to hold a nice edge. The real test will come on Saturday or Sunday when I carve with them. Going to whittle down a 4.5' chunk of ironwood for a cant hook I have laying here at the shop with them to test their mettle (pun intended).

Some incredible curly maple splits from a huge tree we dropped a few years back. I have a whole pile of these splits upstairs in the barn for projects like this....


I already have the handles turned out of that maple pictured above and MAN, is it incredible looking wood!! I'll be doing the final details on these knives tonight, and I'll post a pic of them completed tomorrow or Saturday....
