Quieter performance

Run this for a day and you'll notice your other saws are much quieter. Last I ran this saw a buddy of mine was log splitting about 50 feet from me....and he was wearing ear muffs. Said he heard the saw plain as day. lol I was like...What'd you say? Don't look that loud, but it'll make the windows rattle. haha

You can play with muffler outlets, and at some point the gains are dimishing, in other word tuning the saw becomes a hindrance.


There is no magic size to any saw. It depends on the saw and personal preference. Anymore, I'll give up some noise vs. performance. Everybody is difference and it boils down to what makes you happy. Saying that it also depends on the intended purpose of the saw, max power, who cares about noise?

Mutliple outlets can perform as good or better the one big outlet with less noise.

my ears are already damaged from to many bad accidents i only slightly increase the outlet on the saw anymore my ears can't stand it. make my tinnitus worse.

I use these at work:
- 3M Tracers, rubber, they can be washed and reused


- 3M Yellow Neons, foam, they get dirty quickly and "expand" when they get wet


I also have ear mufflers and they have the highest noise protection, but as others stated they are uncomfortably hot and unpractical when protective glasses have to be used at the same time.

I can not imagine running my saws with ear mufflers on my head, I like to hear them.
But I do realize that others do not share my liking of a saws sound at WOT and actually find the noise painful to their ears.

Do whatever it takes to protect Your daughters hearing, impaired hearing and/or Tinnitus is not a laughing matter - I have both!

I've got a ringa dink of the ear which loud saws are indeed a factor .However things like having two batteries explode on me ,50 years of industrial noise and about that of loud excavating machinery certainly added some .Other than that I have the ears of a bat and the eyes of an eagle .

I have the same problem with muffs. I get a major headache from wearing them for any length of time. I use the Surfirr Sonic Defenders. Best plugs out there for me. They make different levels. I shoot and cut with the EP3 but I use the EP5s if I am in a electroshocking boat all day. Between outboard noise and a generator running. I need more protection.

They aren't cheap, but at least they have a leash now. The old ones were separate. I would always loose one. I wash mine in the sink when they get dirty. Seem to hold up well. I still have a set or two from 5 years ago or so. You can find them from some online retailers cheaper every now and then. Our local police uniform shop sells them and that is where I pick them up usually.

The 562 and the 550 are brutally loud when opened up. I've tried not messing with the internal baffle, but that leaves too much on the table.

By to much on the table do you mean loss in performance Randy?

Took out the baffle of my jungle muffler in my 930 super, easiest muffler mod I ever did. Completely hollow and the exhaust port is almost right behind the opening. Power went up noticeably more torque and I was cutting in the woods about 1 1/2 + miles from a friends house and they heard me from in there basement clear as day. To say it's loud is an understatement. Seems like the bigger saws like more freely flowing mufflers.

I have some stainless cones to play with here. Readily available in many sizes as sauce cups for restaurants.

Conceivably, one could make flow reverse with these and get s0me sound wave noise canceling effect without too much loss in performance.

Kinda like what flowmaster does with baffling in their mufflers.

Plan on experimenting with this soon. May be able to reflect some wave back into the exhaust as well.

Loud saws look faster than they are by the way.

Most people will swear that a loud saw went through wood faster, even if it didn't.

I used to be that tough guy who wouldn't wear muffs, got to the point I couldn't hear anything... I was in 29 or so. Thought running muffler modded saws without muffs had ruined my hearing... went to the doc and it wasn't the mufflers but my ears were packed with sawdust. Literally packed full. I now always have muffs on... you just need to invest in a good well built helmet with 3m muffs. Ones that snap on not one that puts so much pressure it gives you a headache. The good petzl helmets even have air vents for summer time...
