I totally get the desire for less dB. Not long after I started in the printing industry 27 years ago, my employer started requiring us to wear hearing protection. I took to these style plugs pretty quickly after trying out many.
They are a very soft foam. Comfortable in the ear because when they expand, they don't push very hard. Which is why most of us found a bunch of different brands gave us headaches w/ discomfort. They can roll up very small making them easier to insert. After you do put them in, sometimes you'll find they went in to far and you can pull them out a very small amount at a time to get it right. Now, just about everything I do with loud machines, I wear them. My son must as well. Hearing is something you can't get back so I respect it.
