It's finally getting a 266 top end, seals, lines and a rim drive setup
I got hold of a white top had a 162 top-end on it the guy had put the piston in backwards so had to fix that but it was a strong saw for sure

I got this one mostly back together, I didn't put the gauge on it yet but I can hardly pull the damn string. Had .026 squish. Might be snappy when I get it running.

Bumping up this cute thread ;)

Bought it on ebay, for some odd reasons I had those black fuel & oil caps. I'll probleby take her apart later and get her repainted...

Another one I bought on ebay (1996 model)

Those xpg wires is famous for issues, this is how I choose to protect them:
_DSC3678.jpg

While I was in the mood for some 242's, I bought a future project in Norway, not the smartest I've done
_DSC3718.jpg

And this one is on the way...another impulsive purchase lol

242 and 254 used black plastic/front handle bar rubber until 90 or so, Simon
42 used grey plastic/front handle bar rubber the whole time, even on their Anniversary who they started to produce in 1988 was in grey.

here's my first try at a complete restoration,it's a 266 SG. i had the cylinder stripped,NiCom,honed by u.s. chrome.new oem piston,crank & bearings,ignition,carb,air filter & top cover,recoil housing & chain brake,generator,front handle,rear grips.
only modification was base gasket delete, larger 3-shoe clutch.
INTERNET POST PIC NO.462 Large Web view.jpg INTERNET POST PIC NO.463 Large Web view.jpg
my second try was this brand new crankcase & flywheel for 154/254 i found in my parts drawer that's around 85 or 87. i had enough NOS to make it into a 262,only modification was muff mod & base gasket made of writing paper INTERNET POST PIC NO.460 Large Web view.jpg INTERNET POST PIC NO.461 Large Web view.jpg

yes Tor R, it's william.
now that i got started painting, and restoring i found this nice condition 140S in the pile of saws that i cleaned up. it's next to get "the treatment"
i figure it sat in the pile for about 25 years. i looked in the spark plug hole and saw that the cylinder wall by exhaust port was nice and shiny,so i filled it up with gas and tried to get'er going.it had tremendous compression!!...only to find that bar oil had leaked into crankcase.when it did start, wow what a smoke show!!...when it quit smoking,it re-started real good.so i put the tach on it...14,000+-.the guy that gave it to me said"i never could get this saw to start good" i believe it had a bad center gasket right from the get go.2017-05-12_08-46-38_194.jpg 2017-05-12_08-46-15_296.jpg
here's the finished 266SG
