If you port the cylinder far enough you eventually you have a cylinder that will outflow everything around it,bigger carb didn't seem to help but less muffler outlet fixed it.

The way the muffler is when you get a saw from me is the way it has to be,pull the screen and kill it.

My 066 that Shaun ported was that way,it is a beast but pull either screen and you will notice it loose power and pick up idle trouble.
I put a 1" wb on it with a 880 boot and it didn't run one bit different.
The cylinder is simply maxed out.
You have ran that saw dan.
You have ran the unicorn and it's no different.
Pull the screen on it and you will hurt it.

interesting, maxed out. huh

It's certainly not to much timing, when I load it it stops.
To much timing is the opposite plus I put it back to stock and it didn't do it as bad but only because it's not as strong.

Once it's warmed up good it stops,it has to be on the limiter.
It pops at 13.1k
The 6 others I've ported like it popped at 13.1k

I'm 100% positive that the popping through the muffler isn't from timing.

@tree monkey, we've discussed this, I've done everything that I know of, (and I know @jmssaws has too) plus everything that anyone else has suggested to try to find the root cause of this. It's the mtronic, and if it were timing, my saw and probably a half dozen others would have been damaged or destroyed already

If we can agree that it's limited then what's it supposed to do when it hits thr limiter?

It's definitely not the mtronic doing it alone, because the 066/064/390/395 will all do it if you go to far with the ignition advance. The odd part is, some will jerk the rope out of your hand but still not pop, and some start super smooth but still pop! I think it all has to do with dynamic compression, advance curve built in to the coil, and some other things I ain't figured out yet.

Ive never had a stihl pop from to much advance but I have some husky's.

It's not the ignition advance
It does it with no advance
