Thanks fellas.

I don't have a tach. But being ported and cut with 200 lbs compression...with the 194, say it turned 14k. With an HD carb and factory air filter, I'd say it turns 14.5k. And it's much more snappy. W/o an air filter, I have to turn the h screw out another 2 full turns, and it turns easily another 2k

I cut wood with mine most every weekend, getting a lot of hours on it now and still running at 15,900. Used it a lot yesterday afternoon in the hardwood forest, the noise is starting to get to me even though I wear my helmet and muffs.

One of my 026 saws has a stock early muffler, and it is LOUD! Like my 036 was LOUD! From the factory. I used it today and it was loud even with ear plugs. My muff modded 361 is quieter.

Dr al had one approaching 300 I thought. R&D lol

After one of my experimentals passed 250 psi I found no further gain with the porting I was using. My everyday work 026 runs at 225 now and that seems its sweet spot for useability, turns up real good, idles well and very snappy. They need to get a lot more air to the upper cylinder than they can when stock. More air flow equals more fuel, keep it in the cylinder, expel the leftover exhaust and you get a bigger bang.

I'm having a hard time getting mine to not load up on idle. It irritated me so much I had to throw it in the corner and go grab a Husky.......... I'll have to mess with it more once I get done cutting my firewood for the year.

To me it seems ether Fat or lean on idle. Just no happy middle.
I'm not sure there has ever been any one definitive thing to cause this other than it's an MS260. I have a love hate relationship with all 1121 saws. Durable, little, light saws but they have major carburetion quirks. I have 6 of them at the moment and I'd say 1 idles/runs properly, 1 is adequate and the rest are frustrating pains in the arse. The only one to idle well is ported with a #426 carb. It's very low hour. The other one that's "ok" at idle is not ported, just gasket delete and muff mod but does have a 361 carb on it. Best throttle response and spool up of any of them but not as powerful as it's not ported yet. It's erratic though as well. One time it runs great, then occasionally it doesn't want to idle right either, but typically is good, lol. I'm going to try a carb from an ms270 on the next one I do. It's an HD carb body with a slightly smaller venturi than the 440/460 carbs, which I'm hoping helps with the low speed fueling. It's still larger than a 194 though. My dads 026 pro with wt194 and muff mod seems to idle just fine and it's a damn strong saw for not being ported.

I think the best fix for a poor running 260 is a husky 346.

Ive never had a problem getting ms260's to idle right.
Not ALL of them do it but it's ridiculous how many of them I've personally been around that do it. My local dealer and I were discussing this awhile back and he guesstimated he had more warranty period idle complaints with ms260's than all the other saw models combined.

I always put the WT-194 the three I have had and never had an issue.
I have noticed that the 260 is more sensitive to changes in temp than most saws, but this only pertains to the HS side.
