It wouldn't be narrow kerf if it is .058 gauge.

If the bars you are looking at are 188SLBK095 and 188SLGK095 then the difference is the nose. The SLB is a narrow nose profile and the SLG is the normal or wider nose. I use the 188SLG and 208SLG on a Husky 51 and like them a lot. They bore cut very well. I actually haven't seen an SLB so I don't know how much more narrow it is.

In .325, SLB normally is 10t and SLG 12t. This likely means that the SLG bars are slightly shorter for the same dl count, to compensate for the wider nose. Imo, the SLB bars will be preferable for most applications, and I believe I read somewhere that the SLG bars have been discontinued? Regardless, some of them will of course remain in the "pipeline".

Most .325 bars from other brands than Oregon have 10t noses, the exceptions usually are 3/8" bars with .325 noses on them, and often have a higher dl count than what is common in .325.

I agree that the wider nose will bore cut faster, but the narrower one will do it more controlled (in the entry phase), and be useable (for bore cutting) in more situations.

I measured my 18" SLG against the Husqvarna HL-258 narrow nose that came standard with the saw and they have the same depth of cut.

Also, I seem to have a hard time finding SLBs but SLGs seem readily available.

As far as plunging, the Husky bar has more of a difficult time entering the cut. The SLG enters the cut seamlessly. My experience is that all my narrow profile bars are difficult when starting the plunge. With my Echo cs-361p and an Oregon narrow nose bar I just can't start the plunge, but with the wider nose Echo branded bar it will bore just fine. But of course, we all have different experiences.

Ryan if you have a "16 Stihl bar for a 201T in decent shape i'll trade you this Pro-lite bar for it. My 550 and 346 use 3/8"

The difference may not show up before you tighten the chain on them on the same saw. The difference will be small, but there has to be one.

I have never had any sort of problem with starting bore cuts with 10t .325 bar noses - but the chain design may be a factor, as may the wood and technique....
