I hate to do this but.......

I generally run Stihl oil in the silver bottle and mix it 50:1. Is this wrong? I read through a lot of the pages of the oil recommendation thread, but I never saw Husky or Stihl oil. I saw read everything from Amsoil to Honda. I also saw ratios from 32:1-50:1.

I run stock saws at home and work. My 440 has a dual port muffler if that matters.

Am I doing something wrong or is there something better?

Is factory oil and factory ratio a bad idea?

Just wanting to prolong the life of my saw the best I can.

Personally I can't take the smell of Stihl Ultra. I ran Stihl orange bottle for 20+ years at 50:1 with no issues. Now I run amsoil 50:1 but I'm about to go to 40:1 cuz I'm running ported saws now. Make sure to retune if you change oil or ratio.

I'm still using Mobil MX2T and have a case or so left.

The exhaust seems to burn my eyes pretty badly on hot days but I've been using MX2T for so long now I don't remember if other oils do the same.

I run all my saws on amsoil saber 32:1, randy did a thread on why this is the best ratio a while back, can't find the link though.

In any case I figure the extra cost is so miniscule I'd rather know that my saws are going to last, and besides I like the smell ;)

I've used Stihl ultra in the past and I don't like the smell of it. It reminds me of burning plastic. I do like Husky XP oil and get it for a good price at my Husky dealer. Mix it 32 or 40:1 and be happy.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I may be switching oil. I am out of Stihl, and was looking at switching. Like I said, I found one "oil" post, but it was 400+ pages on my phone. That is a lot of info to cover.

Most 2 stroke oils will be fine ,just stay away from marine rated ones ,or oils for injection systems

My own saw gas is amsoil Saber 100.1 but first batch I made was 40.1 and it left a oily mess with any leaks or spills so I made a batch at 50.1 and my fuel still looks like blue kool-aid. smell good and saw get run hard without any issue. plugs are cheeper than internal parts.

What about Red Armor? My farmer's co op is an Echo dealer. I agree that dealing with a drooly saw and replacing plugs is much cheaper than a cylinder and piston! Like I said, the saw is stick but does get worked hard. If I get Randy to port it after I slow down some, I am sure he will direct me on what to use then! Seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on that one.

If you run a saw for work the cost of expensive synthetics adds up fast. There is nothing wrong with what you have been doing running the OEM recommended oil. They usually know what works in their products despite many thinking they know better. If your happy with the oil your using and get it at reasonable cost...stick with it. If your experiencing deposit build up either pull jug & clean crown & port or switch to a FD oil for a while to clean things up then return to the oil your using.

FD oil? Sorry but I am new to all this info. I've ran saws and other OPE for most of my life, but just always mixed the oil and gas to the right ratio, fired it up, and ran the piss out of it. Always maintained them to the best of my knowledge. I've learned more on this site in two weeks than I had since running OPE.

FD is the highest JASO 2T rating. It will have the most cleaning properties in it. I run FB rated oil but I keep an eye on deposits and deal with them.when I have to.
