Just out of high school I had a Chevy Berreta.
2.8v6, 5 speed. Over 300k on it. No air filter because the dryer vent cold air kit didnt need one. I added oil once in a while. Didnt change it.
That car got thrashed. 5 or so clutches, a few transmissions and a van load of cv shafts.

Ever see the mighty 302 split in half, nothing but intake and oil pan holding it together? I've seen it.

They all break eventually.
...a Got Damn Beretta?

Agreed.
GS Stage 1s are cool rides. You gots a sedan wif a solid V6 motor, and then you put a hair dryer down the intake and a Hoover on the exhaust. More GOODER. Respect those. The Ferd Thunderbird STC was a decent try, but fell short. They should have used the 2.9 V6 for that instead of the stupid Pinto 2.3 liter...
You talking about the super coupes? Those were 3.8 liter mills

One of my good friends dad worked for Eaton Corp in Athens, GA. They made the superchargers(maybe compressor side) for the Thunderbird Turbo coupes. His nieces husband had one. He said they were a version of the 2.3 I4.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, or if they offered different options.
Only 3.8 that comes to mind was the GM variant that's been around since the late 50s. Thats the one they put in the Buick GS Stage 1. About 225 cubes if I remember right.
They make good repower motors for old Willys flatfenders and pickups too.

Yes they do all brake eventually but you must have had the best 2.8 on earth with mine being second in my 1985 s-10. Beat on for 280,000 miles then I rolled it dumbest oil change ever had to go through the drivers side fender flap to get filter. Yours was good mine was good but everyone else I knew that had one couldn’t go 500miles without working on it. 2.8,3.1 and the 3.4 are all garbage overall and the 3,6
Isn’t much better. The old motors with big timing chains and no vvt seem to just not have all the little things go wrong. But what you spend on parts you save on gas I’ve never had a 302,305 or anything else in an older 4x4 that will get 20-22 highway like my 3.5 ecoboost that will need timing chains soon.

Not all my buddy had an 1988 super coupe back in high school that had a 2.3 turbo and it couldn’t get out of its own way unless you held the brake to build boost and even then it wasn’t what I’d call fasr

Yesterday I was nothing but a slacker and did absolutely nothing. I hung out at a buddy's car lot most of the day and he's got one of them Buick regal turbo v6 cars in his collection. We ran into town in that thing to pickup parts. Its stock and its one impressive car
Might be wrong, but I think they called it a Grand National. Buddy of mine had one

GNX was a slightly hotter version of the Grand Nationals. Only 547 were made. They had bigger turbocharger, bigger intercooler and high flow exhaust all done by Mclaren Neighbor had a Grand national abiut 20 years ago. He sold it. I always told him he’d regret it. Now that they bring huge money I remind him about once a year and a gfy usually follows
