The amount of terrible advise on facebook is overwhelming. I try to give solid advise occasionally but then find myself having to defend it to people who have no experience. Last month I finally had to tell someone, "If you have no welding experience, stop giving welding advice" after he tried to say that a form of tig welding was bonding with epoxy.

And somehow everything becomes an oil discussion in 10 or less comments, much faster than here.

Back to the question at hand, specific forums for specific purposes. One thing FB really excels at is staying in touch with family members I otherwise would never hear from, which is all I ever use it for. I am a reloader and caster, and so I am a long time member on the Cast Boolits forum. Otherwise, I do most of my online socialization here. I'm not even that big of a saw enthusiast, but the folks here are just superb!

Yes they get on marine gas,Cam 2,,Av gas, rocket fuel ,that "aspen" stuff they sell in Europe that we can't even get in this country . All this hoopla for a chainsaw as if it were a fully restored Rolls-Royce or a 1938 Harley model EL .I just smile .

As far as FB the only reason I ever got on it was most of my family is .When it was determined my wife was terminal it was a way to communicate with all them at once .Since then I really spend too much time on it .
Some people can joke around with and some people are as sober as a judge and don't take joking very well .They can certainly dish it out they just don't take it very well .
I've been called every name in the book because of my humor which most people don't understand because they have none .Recently one called me a condescending pri-k .I pointed out condescending was not a word that would apply in my situation .Evidently that persons command of the English language was not as good as mine ---not my fault .:aplastao:

OPE is my main forum of entertainment. I still visit AS but dont get engaged with much, it's more like chainsaw craigslist for me.

I visit hearth.com when it gets colder and brag about my Froling boiler ect... I pick on the Blaze King snobs also.

I use to visit 67-72chevytrucks.com but once I put my motor together and in my truck I haven't been back much.

Recently I joined the Husqvarna facebook group but it's not like a good chainsaw forum. Actually is quite useless compared to a forum. I guess if you didnt know how good OPE really was you might think the facebook page was useful lol.
I occasionally visit AS, but it's just not like the ole days...mostly to look up links, info and so forth.
Hearth.com is pretty kool...I visit Forestry Forum from time 2 time, but engaging and getting feedback there can often be slowwww as molasses, YET...I never ever see anybody dog-cussing anybody or posting any perverted junk/pics.

There is a wealth of information on various forums if you can separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak .IMO you will find more info from sites like RC stuff or British MC sites regarding 2 cycle modifications than you will from chainsaw related sites .Many feel this stuff is top secret and only they have the key to the black arts which they don't .Then again some are just interested in a better running saw and some are strung out trying to gain .5 seconds cutting 9" poplar cants .It's where ever a persons head is at I guess . I don't get all concerned about it myself but some do .

Now forums in general I've been on a lot of them and have seen success and failures .One was merely to promote one "builders" product and became very cliquish ,it circled the drain .One got strung out talking smack on unions,it went south .One became rather thuggish with regards to all but a few, gone .One was just plain silly, the novelty wore off .
One in particular became of a mind set it controlled the internet and maybe still thinks that way .Too bad it used to be a lot of fun .How it's doing today I have no idea and could care less .So they are all just one mouse click away . You have control of that .

Facebook is terrible if someone is wanting a real answer to a problem.
I think anyone with brains and knows there suff on wherever the matter doesn't reply on facebook anymore it's a waist of time for them to do so only the clowns reply on there now it's across the board to in all the different groups I'm in.
It's basically a waste of time being on there nothing to learn form there anymore.
It's that bad I think people will be going back to forums in there droves in the not to distant future.
One thing Facebook has shown me is that there is a very high % of dumb people in the world that are happy to give bad advice it's scary really to think this is society now days.
Facebook is a window on society and it's not a pretty view lol.

FB is whatever you make of it .Although I'm a member of some groups connected with chainsaw forums as rule I don't participate on FB .Some like for me being a one time member of Uncle Sams misquided and ornery raiders of the seven seas,US Navy submarine force is just enjoyment telling old "sea stories " .On that unless you were actually there and knew the lingo it would be like learning Chinese arithmetic .

They've dubbed this the age of information .The internet is a wealth of same but at the same time the age of misinformation .There is so much fake stuff it's not funny .The funny part is how many people believe it as if where Gospel truth .To me it just points out there are some really stupid people .On top of that they might know something is false and still refer to because they think they can sway other people who they think are even more stupid .I don't think it will ever end ,just gets worse .
