One major improvement is the air deflector that pushes most of the heat away from the handlebar. Touch the pto side of the handlebar on a 562 or older gen 1 550 after some run time. Stick your finger into the gas tank and feel how hot it is in there... It’s transferring all that heat into the gas tank.... a real design flaw that is pretty obvious. 562 is a fantastic saw... but not in above 80 degrees.
This is great information Mason, thank you !

My 562 is just muffler modded with the decomp plugged. Because of this post (thanks Mason !!) I thought about a good way to deflect the hot air off the cylinder. Here it is ....... courtesy of an 066 air filter cover.

Let us know if there is a improvement or not.
The handle definitely is not as hot as it once was. I’m seeing room for improving this deflector already, just don’t want to remove it yet

Long term is my question ....... is less air moving past the cylinder as a result of this addition ? Probably.

Will the reduced air movement result in any adverse (overheating) affects ? I don’t believe so, but time will tell

OK, so it got a little run time ..... handle is monumentally cooler and even at idle, lots of air is coming out diagonally down towards the outside edge of the chain cover. I dont think this cut down on any air moving past the cylinder fins, but it definately re-directed it. The last two weeks had temps between 90-100 degrees whilst today is only 87, she seems to run fine, no vapor lock or boiling fuel issues now, or before this mod. The only real difference that I can see is that the handle is way cooler and there is gobbs of air being spit out down and away from the chain cover ............ I mocked up a picture

I took mine out today with the handle wrap I rigged up.

Unfortunately i did experience vapour lock... To say the least it pissed me off.
Thought i had this figured out.

I did make some observations though. The carb was not hot, nor the lines running to the carb, nor the fuel tank. I popped the tank and no bubbles... the magnesium case that wraps around the left rear side was pretty hot, too hot to touch... It was 28 degrees Celcius today in the sun no wind for 15 minutes.
On top of that my 3120 also vapour locked as well running 5 slabs. Couldnt get it started again until i got home and then it ran fine not missing a beat..

I will update next time i use the saw probably tomorrow.

If the new only change to the new saws is a couple cut outs, why do you think deflecting air will make any difference?

The cutouts are just a band-aid for the real problem. In fact I think the only cutout that is helpful is the one up near the decomp button hole. The cutout of material down along the side is a step backwards vs the old original 562 cover. Cutting that part back just lets more heat blow onto the handle and heat up the gas tank. Husqvarna isn’t stupid. Im sure there well aware of the issues. They changed the 550mk2 and 572 to be more heat resistant. They are just dropping the ball with the 562 for whatever reason that may be... financial reasons maybe... or there is a replacement in the works. Who knows.

Welp, the handle is much cooler and I didn’t have any starting or running problems running in just about 90 degree temps for 2 tanks worth of cuttin BIG white oak rounds with a 20” bar buried for every cut. No vapor lock, no stalling, no problems...............

Why wouldn’t it make a difference if the handle was transmitting heat into the gas tank ?

Good to hear.
Im hoping that in slightly cooler weather mine does not have any more problems.

Send me a cover, I'll rivet on a deflector for you to try

If it doesnt work for you, or you dont like it, just drill out the rivets
Getting ready for work but i think this is a project i can tackle. I have an old 372 xtorq cover i can take plastic from.
Have you tried your saw since your last post?

Going to be running it today
Run it hard :) Put it to the ultimate test and lets put this issue to bed!
Just think of all the people you will be helping if this works out, this is the only place that seems to have the ambition to try stuff out and think outside the box. Pretty awesome IMO
