Get a SuperSplit HD with Honda GX engine, 3-sec cycle time...buy once, cry once and be done with it. You can come run mine and see what yer gettin'.
Thanks Jason, I appreciate the offer. Would still be splitting by hand. Just can't right now. The way inflation is going, buying anything today is better than waiting a week. I am going to look today and hopefully buy one today. I am off work until next Tuesday and would really like to get all my wood put up for next year. Will update what happens.

My 22 ton Speeco is around 10 seconds, never timed it. Working by myself it seems plenty fast enough for me, working with two people it can be a little slow. Most of the time splitter is not making a full stroke, when wood pops, hit the return. If splitting shorts do the same, only return only far enough to turn log and split again. Seldom use full cycling. It has a BS engine and that piece of crap just keeps on running and starts easily for about 10 years now.

I have this one. Seems northern has since discontinued it. The new version is #11312, it has a kohler motor. Get the 4 way wedge add on, well worth it.
Mine has been modified by previous owner. Big plate added to the foot and extension on wedge. Really helps on those big rounds.

I have added the 4 way wings since these photos were taken.

A 22 ton isn’t going to split a lot of the hickory or gum, especially if it’s a bigger tree.

Bull Shít. I swear every time you open your mouth on here stupid just falls out.

I split tons of massive hardwoods of all varieties including a little gum and tons of hickory in a 20 ton MTD splitter for around 15 years. Given what the @Lnk has said I bet a 22 would fit the bill fine.

One thing I will say about the kinetic splitters is they are the closest thing to splitting by hand. I really like my Super split.

Looks like now is not the best time to buy a splitter. Between RK, TSC, Lowes, harbor freight,(forgive me, it was right there). Nobody has anything smaller than 30ton. I am not objecting to a 30, but the 27 is $500 cheaper, just that I won't get instant gratification by waiting. So it looks like I will be waiting for it to arrive. I can buy a lot of gratification for 5 Ben Franklin's. Will let you know when it comes in. It is the crimson force 27 ton. Unless they tell me they can't get it, which is always a possibility.

Nuthin' wrong with it. Looks like the typical re-branded Speeco splitter to me...just like Dirty Hands versions at Lowe's, County Line or Huskee versions TSC sells, etc, etc.

Little lost on the comment earlier about the Super Split HD that you would "still be splitting by hand"...

I love my kinetic, Subaru engine sips fuel unbelievably slow, cycle time is ridiculously fast, need 3 people to make it work hard. But that’s not its best attribute !

To me, no hydraulic fluid, hoses, problems to deal with, and no leaks !!!

Its got a rack & pinion that gets lubed once a year and two shaft bearings that get greased once a year too. No mess, no overheating fluid, adjustable return springs, super smoothe ……… Id suggest that you just try a few hydro units and a kinetic, then decide. Remember, none of us are getting any younger

I am sure it will do what I need done. I watched videos of the kinetic splitter. Pretty neat. More than I need to spend for as little wood I use. Will review it when I get it. Prolly around the 4th.

That isn’t *B-S.... or stupid, it has happened several times with our splitters side by side.

There’s nothing the splitter you got coming won’t handle…big rounds simply get cleaved from the outer edges inward in vertical mode. One of my brothers has had a Speeco 22-ton horiz/vert for God knows how long and there’s nothing he’s rolled up in front of it it won’t handle…read the grain and it’s a done deal.

This. Just like with a Fiskars if you pick the wood off the outside of a gnarly bit you'll seldom fail. But drive the wedge into the dead middle expecting a miracle? Good luck.

I never understood the thought behind that wood or splitter knowing where you are "peeling" wood from. And I've tried it twice deep frozen. Didn't make one lick of difference.
