I wouldn't worry about it either way. That sleeve gets swaged in there and it's not gonna back out if it's done right.

You are sure it is the same exact set ? If so I could dremel a bit out but I cant imagine it would give it enough clearance the way it looks from here.

I have used JB on all the insert repairs I did over the last 25 years or so,all are still in service. Always used the Keen Sert ( sleeve) style inserts but I don`t have the clearance issues with the threaders, have an assortment of threaders/re-threaders plus a few custom made mandrels that insert into the existing plug holes and DRO off the plug sealing surface on the cylinder.

Well if you need someone to get it in there straight I can. I have a job shop.
What do you need ? Are you able to bore it and tap it with a m17x 1.25 tap there ? Do you have that tap?

I would just need the save a thread tap meant for the sleeve and the sleeve. I would say I could grab one of the China special 17x1.25 taps from eBay and it would probably be fine, but there is a standard for all threads on their fitment class and I'm not sure how sloppy the China tap is.

Just like basher said I would turn a mandrel to indicate off from or if things don't look to sloppy and I have the space I would make a tap guide that sits on the head to guide that tap straight by hand.

Problem is the tool is too long and hits inside. That's why I think we need a tap not the tool.I'm posting pics soon for Matt to compare the length.

Yeah going to have to sacrifice the end of it. I'll price out a tap.

I've got a homemade plug that I use, to line up in the mill i screw my plug in the cylinder. I then indicate two sides up and down. It's about 4" long once screwed into the cylinder. It will get you dead nuts close.

Fixing to threadsert a 660 cylinder.
