I just checked mcmaster and they skip over 17mm. Not a common fastener size and very fine for something that size.

might actually be cheapest to grind off the tip and just get another save a thread tap.....rather than get a new 17mm tap....

This tap has a 14 mm starter thread then goes to 17 that's why its too long.

Retired machinist told me to get someone with a Bridgeport machine to bore and tap it so it is perfectly straight.

I don't think its sending it off center... I think the tap is digging into the top of the combustion chamber....by the time it digs in, the tap has a pretty good grip at the 17mm threads... ....i'm gonna play with this a bit....

and I have my folks bridgeport that i can use... how in the world would I mount the cylinder head so its straight? you'd have to somehow line it up first, then tap...but lining it up would be nearly impossible, especially if the threads were buggard in the first place

When it hits the hemi shaped head it moves it off center.
