A little care and maintenance goes along way. I've seen saws trashed in 3 months and seen some still going 30 years old. I loaned out a little husky once to a guy from church and it came back looking like he'd been trenching a water line through a gravel driveway.

Do you Stihl guys ever get sick of bringing the screws falling out of Husky's deal. Someone says his Husky is faster and the first thing you guys do is go on a rampit about how at least my Stihl still has all its screws!
No, we don't. We just reap the investments from our Loctite and Fastenal stock. Lol.

I don't think a 026 is a bad saw but there are other newer small saws out there I'd rather have. 550xp, 346xp, 5105, 421, ms261 and ms241 for example. Better AV and air filters.

Did some heads up comparison today. My 026 developed a fuel leak in carb. Replaced the pathetic fixed h jet carb for a 194t. Muffler modded the 026 and put a 16 pico bar and 63ps chain. This saw cuts neck and neck with my stock 346xp. Very impressed with how the old 026 cut today.
The 194t is the best carb for these saws. Simply changing it from the original carb (323 I think) on my 260 made a huge difference.

How many used parts can you find for those other than the 346? I agree they're better, but at what price?

I've had 261cm and while it has grunt and is really strong it ran an 18 es bar with 3/8 chain very well but the one I had hot start issues and got rid of it. I have a 550 that I really like but I honestly prefer the older style carbs as of now. The 026 isn't the fastest but it has a proven longevity. I love the 346 cause there isn't many problems with it either. If you had to use a saw for 10 years and maintain it and be able to depend on it the 026 has still got to be on the short list of keepers

There are actually some stuff on ebay for 550's and 562's. Had to fix a friend's 550 with a broken oil pump, easily found one on ebay.

I agree. I'll stick with my old school carb saws. The 026 and 346 are the best saws in that class. I have both and wouldn't part with either.

Many posts mention Husky fasteners coming loose/falling out. I realise only a portion of the complaints are from first hand experience, many just regurgitate what they read. But I've never read a post where somebody does a damn thing about it, is it really that hard to measure and buy some serrated head fasteners for your hoosky so they stop falling out? My 555/550xp don't drop fasteners but a few bucks could stop a bunch of whaling.

I have a 550xp and 2-261s that are roached I can use for parts anytime.

Why is it so hard to find parts for those saws ? .. I think it's easier.
