This is why you should make sure all the grindings are out of your muffler before you put your saw into use.

This was one of my first attempts at a muffler mod on a 550 before I owned a dremel. I guess with the baffle I didn't get everything out when I blew it out. IMAG2325.jpg IMAG2326.jpg

I'm gonna clean it up and run it as is. There is some scoring about an eighth of an inch from the squish band. This was a relatively low hour topend, oh well you live you learn.

Edit: I have since put this saw back together and ran it, it runs good and I can say it is still impressive.

I will see if I can find some pictures of my brother in laws muffler mod and porting attempt on a assembled engine. No air compressor either. It was jammed up with steel and aluminum chips. It runs again but he raised the exhuste so high it lost a bit of torque.

Thanks for posting this warning.
My first mm was done cleaning with air pistol, should check how it look after a year in use.
Will use vacuum machine and blast with air on same time from now on.

I bought a very clean 359 that the previous owner "cleaned" the scored cylinder. He left so much grit in there that it killed the new piston and all the bearings. He was baffled why it didn't run very long. lol

I did two mufflers, Dolmar PS-7900 and Sachs-Dolmar 108.

I went the safe route and split them open for the mod.
Washed them thoroughly with brake cleaner and loads of water after the grinding and before reassembly!

Took a while longer I guess, but better safe than sorry?! :)

BTW:
No noticeable nor perceivable gains from the MM on my Sachs-Dolmar 108.

My Dolmar PS-7900 gained perceived "wow" effect and a extremely pleasing sound at WOT! throb.gif
I don't even care whether she gained anything performance vise.
