I don't see a lip on the bearing in my saw.
PXL_20211230_091201219.jpg

It doesn't look like 1 mm below flush will be an issue though. I'm waiting for the press arbor and sleeve to arrive before I fit a new seal. I am also still waiting for the Vac. and pressure testing flanges from the Stihl shop.

don't you drive the seal in flush with the outer race of the bearing??? like on a 660? then the rubber seal just barely clears that lip on the crank.
when I drive seals too far, even by a little bit i curse at myself then tear em out and do new. i'm ocd about that sort of stuff.

Yes, the press arbor will set the seal flush with the outer bearing race. 1mm below flush will still leave plenty of clearance between the inner race and cage.

My concern would be less about the metal part of the seal rubbing on the cage and more about the rubber seal improperly contacting the inner race (face) of the bearing. I can measure a bearing to check for clearance but I dont have an 880 seal here to check and see how thick the rubber is

I’ve push in a seal to far on a ms260, I found out the hard way it was to far.

it tuned good for a few mins, then it wore enough to leak, but I knew what it was. :BangHead:

The big silver ring goes behind the carburetor!

The little silver ring goes on the impulse line (carb side)

The Brass stand-off's go in the top cover! (flange side down and go up into the bottom of the cover from the recoil side)

The long screw, short screw and the nylock-nut are for attaching the inside bucking spike.

I did not get that hose clamp in my kit. It may go to the fuel line/filter.

Anyone know where I can get a new spark plug boot for this 880? Factory one is a joke

I got my new seal installed. Went to start the saw for the first time and it popped. I thought I had it made. The saw will pop all day long but will not start. I can get the saw on first rotation to pop but the compression release kicks out and I cannot pull the rope any further. Does that make any sense. I think I got a week compression release. Is there a way to adjust them? The engine will turn over one time and stop. I hope I am making my self clear.

Maybe the timing is off. I got the coil gap set a .002.The saw will pop then snatch the pull cord out of my hand. I got a D ring on the pull cord

I think that coil gap is too tight, but it also sounds like you may have some hydrolock inside your saw.

Sometimes, it is just a little too much oil on the cylinder and it will burn off, or it could be your carb is leaking a bit, and it will be a recurring problem till it is fixed.

It also could be you just have too much compression. I had a saw that I needed to start with two hands on the rope, the builder took it back and raised the exhaust a bit, and then it was fine.

.002? that is too close.

Did you mean .020?

Your comp release is working as it should, or at least it works as mine does.

the coil gap is a .002. I will go back to using a business card as a gaping tool. Will pull plug and turn it over quit a few times.

Ok reset the gap with business card. .027 Thousand. Same thing. Pulled the decompression valve out and the piston on the valve has no resistance when you open and close it. It think the valve is bad. Can anyone tell me what model husky valve will work on this 880. I got a dealer right down the road.

Looking at my valve the hole in the side of it is small than 1/16
of a inch. Looking at one on line the exhaust port looks lots bigger. Any comments on if this is right?
