One thing that will not be in my vid., is the final issue that I had....The .404 sprocket that came in the Kit is out of spec, it's not .404 but it's not .375 either.

All of my vids are on youtube ....in my sig. When I did my bolt for bolt series' ...it took forever and was hideously boring and there's nearly zero return on investment. I dont have an 880 to mess with...maybe one day. But odds are I won't be continuing my bolt for bolt format. Its too much work. I do just about every video live these days to avoid editing lol.

No I did not leak test the cylinder and crankcase, I did not have the special tools, nor did I think about getting them. I did leak test the tank! I do have them on order now though, and I would highly recommend that you get the sleeve for the PTO side of the crank before you build the saw.

Case bolts to draw the halves together?

This is why I sell crank tools .... so no lateral forces get put on the bearings during assembly.

And yes... 9 hours of raw footage for a build sounds about right....with 12 hours of basic editing. This is why I stopped doin em. It's a crazy amount of work. Good on ya for doing it.

Ya, it's crazy I know, Will your crank tool fit the 880, and the 440?

Both Husky and Stihl crank tools apply lateral forces to the bearing when drawing the crank through the bearing.

I have assembled almost 26 kits with 0 bearing failures using the case bolts to draw the halves together, all kits were assembled with bearings and seals supplied in the kit.

How much is your Crank Tool?

Yes the crank tools will fit 440 and 880. They do most of the relevant saws and lots of the oddball too.

Shoot me a pm

that’s one of them problems with the pre installed seals.. there isn’t away ifaik.. most just knock them out and install new afterwards

edit then there’s making sure the bearings are not full of swarf

If you don't put your pants and your underwear on at the same time....dont put a crank in with bearings pre installed. It might work....but ya might get something stuck. Lol..

I pull out pre installed seals and install seals PROPER ...after the crank is installed. That way you can ensure the seals doesn't prolapse and end up popping out the spring.

With this Sleeve!
You need to use this sleeve regardless of when the seal is installed (before the crank or after the crank) makes no difference.

It does make a difference....that seal installer is nice and it prevents prolapsing the seal.

But the idea of the crank tools is to not put lateral pressure on the bearings by pulling the crank through the inner race.... the crank tool sleeve sits up against the inner race which is inaccessible when a seal is installed. Attempting to install the crank whilst the seals are in place kinda defeats the purpose of the crank tools because it'll put lateral pressure on the bearings. I hope that explanation makes sense.

Wagner's on Ebay. 16 bux, 5 days shipping.

My local Stihl dealer had them in stock for 30 bux, along with this tool for 170 bux. It is for manipulating the crank and flywheel side case half. And the only way that I have to remove the MS 880 crank from the flywheel side case half, the horseshoe shaped splitter will not fit anything bigger than the 044/440 and the 880 crank is massive.

Your right, order of assembly would absolutely matter if using your crank tool!!

I think I ruined 2 or 3 of the pre installed seals, but I can usually make it work.

But like Matt says, that is not the proper way.
