Norma loads some great stuff! When I got my Ruger 220 Swift w/26" bull barrel and 10X Leopold Scope back in the 70s, they were the only ones manufacturing ammo for it. That stuff was very hot and accurate as heck. In fact, it was the only factory ammo that I was never able to best with a hand load. It shot holes in holes at 100 yds, shot after shot.

Unfortunately, the bullets were very hard and did not open up on woodchucks (they would just pencil hole, and the chucks would run a good distance [often down their holes]).

My subsequent hand loads with 52 and 53 gr Sierra HP bullets and IMR 4064 were almost as accurate, and stopped chucks in their tracks.

5 of 5 on the small 8" plate, horizontal string with a 18" 308 gas gun, 25 mph right to left wind. Took a break in between to get the cows off the range. 20140727_162303.jpg

Oh that's at 1000 yards. If you zoom you can follow it out.

I use 4064 in my Ruger 77 heavy barrel with 52 grain Sierra's in Norma or Remington brass. I once did get a ground squirrel just past a 600 yard long wheel line. most shots were 400 - 450 yards.

Yessir...Norma is top tier stuff for sure. I hand load everything as well. I've been using Norma brass with the 6XC for years. I can generally get around 14 reloads out of it before primer pockets loosen up too much

Very Impressive. My M-77 220 Swift was a tack driver, but not at that range!

However I do have a M-77 Bi-Centennial in 300 Win Mag that used to shoot 5/8" 5 shot groups with my hunting load (168 gr Nosler Solid Base over 70 Gr of IMR 4350), which was more that adequate for any of the wood shoots I took with it.

I now have a Ruger American Rifle in 30-06 that will do the same, but it is much lighter and easier to carry all day long!

I once shot a 5 pointer from 20yds with a .30-30
Crazy shot
Shoulda been there!!

That is the way to hunt! Have taken several at about the 30 yd mark with bow, cross bow and MZ.

My Uncle was bow hunting one time, and took a break and sat on a rock wall. When he saw movement he froze, and the deer came in and sniffed the tip of his arrow … he never did get a shot at it!

I do just fine...haha

I use the 6XC for target stuff inside 1400 yds and then switch to the 6.5 SAUM beyond that. The furthest I've taken the SAUM is 1950 yds

I thought about a 6.5 SAUM for a while but I settle on a 7 SAUM, I want more punch and some heavier bullets. I will probably have Jon build that one. I want to try a proof as well.
