Well, after a little bit of a fight, and a long drive....I talked these three sexy ladies into coming home with me....

Yep that's daddy's brand new 461 being flanked by two 462C's. The new owners know who they are, and I'l be getting them shipped in the AM Thursday. View attachment 132401

Awesome, how long did it take ya to mill em? did you air dry them? or put them up green?

Because of delays in the site prep work (getting a bulldozer to come in and level the site) we air dried them, outside, for over 2 years. They were stacked and stickered 3 across and cargo strapped down. We made extras, we lost some. One of them imploded right after we milled it, very loud and scary, almost exploded. Most of them just got some mild checking and were fine. Some are near perfect. (We had to wait till they were using a bulldozer at a near by Bluestone quarry).

The 20' X 24' structure has 8 - 12' vertical posts (4 on each side), 2 - 17' vertical posts (center front + back), 4 - 20' beams going across (8' high on the posts) and 3 - 27' beams going front to back on top of the posts (1.5' overhang on front + back). All are 6.5" X 6.5" except for the Ridge Beam which is 3.25" x 9.5".

Voids were cut into the two 17' posts for the ridge beam to fit in and be flush on top.

We stood the two sides up on the footings using a rope winch come along (just 2 of us that day).

I did the milling with a very inexpensive beam machine, and all I had at the time was a 441 and the 044. Would have gone faster with a ported 660.

The 27' cuts took 10-15 minutes each cut. A lot of chain sharpening involved.

Generally, my friend Harold (a carpenter) would set up the log (screw a 2X4 to it, straight and level) and I would do the cutting. We spent a few WEs cutting.

This occurred after me, my brother and my nephew went around the 50 acre property with an ATV and modified boat trailer and hauled out the logs from blown down trees that I'd spotted while hunting. If I had not kept track of where they were (mentally), you would have never found them when the leaves were up. The wind storms up there seem to be taking the Ash trees down faster than they are growing, and with the Emerald Ash bore making it unlikely they will ever re grow, I wanted to use them for something.
