My fire department is soon to be in the market for a new saw to do roof ventilation. Stihl offers the 461 rescue. It has a larger recoil handle, wrap handle, and muffler deflector, and a special bar cover used as a depth gauge. Husky doesn't sell a factory option such as Stihl does. You have to go threw a 3rd party vendor to get such a saw with the add ons.
My questions are this
1) have the bugs been worked out on the auto tune/mtronic carbs? Our saws can sit for a month minimum without running and up to a year before it gets a worked beyond a warm up run.
2) As volunteer fire dept budgets keep getting under funded, do any of you guys have a QUALITY used saw of either option this will give us years of service? I'm not entirely sold on the fact I need all the fire dept add on's so just a regular 460/1 or 576 PHO will do.
3) if we buy new, should we wait for the 462? Are there any improvements over the 461? Will the 461 now be reduced in price because the 462 is coming out?
We do have a new TS-420 and I would like to stay Stihl just for brand similarity, but we as a dept have no dealership loyalty or brand loyalty.
