It’s almost 1.5 lbs lighter than a 440. The weight is more like running an 036. Power is similar to a 440 thoughFor how much it weighs and power id rather run a ms440.
You can find information on Stihl's site:I mean it looks cool. Can the specs be found anywhere? Availability date?
Well I have the first gen ms400cm. But the saw in the video is different. But the 400cm is actually 5.4hp vs the 4.0 of the 261 (according to stihl’s site.)You can find information on Stihl's site:
MS 400cm
Its a pound heaver than the 261 and only 0.4 HP more...but it has a magnesium piston!!
What Stihl says about it: "Designed for the most demanding tree care and forestry professionals, the STIHL MS 400 C-M is built with STIHL M-Tronic™ engine technology to deliver low exhaust emission, fuel-efficient performance even under changing conditions. Unlike its aluminum piston-equipped counterparts, the advanced magnesium piston in the MS 400 C-M provides greater displacement, power, and torque without additional weight. A long-life HD2 air filter means you simply clean it instead of replacing it, while a pre-separation system removes large debris before it even gets to the air filter, increasing run time between cleanings."
You are correct, I saw it wrong. 1.5 hp difference!!But the 400cm is actually 5.4hp vs the 4.0 of the 261
Looks very hoosk-farnish! Maybe Hexa chain is not selling that well...Not much new about the Ms400.1, it's s mainly marketing speel. Its a completely new ground up redesign.
They claim when people run it they think it feels like a fuel injected saw due to the reduced rotating mass.
Another feature is an improved rear handle design they claim gives better feel and control.
Most of the video was talking about the hexa chain.
Pretty much a gimmick. It can be faster than round because it cuts a slightly narrower kerf. Round file a Hexa chain with the same attack angles as the Hexa file does and the round chain is faster. Round has a smooth arc and none of the corners like Hexa making it smoother and fasterIn my neck of the woods hexa chain is not selling at all. The files cost too much and people think it’s a gimmick.

If you are buying, I will take 3, if not, then I will stick with what I haveHexa files here are $10-12 a piece. A dozen round files is $30, $24 if I’m doing a bulk order at the saw shop.

Even if it was faster I’m still not buying any
I can make a video of semi chisel out-cutting all of them if that would make a difference. It’s all about the angles used. Poorly sharpened square can be slower than a well-filed semi if different angles are used. But that’s the reason I mentioned using the same “attack” angles on the side and top plates.I saw a video comparing hexa, square, round (sharpened before use) and round out of the box. Cutting cookies, Hexa was fastest with square cut about a second behind and round sharpened before use was a second behind square. Round out of the box was about 4 seconds behind the round chain that was sharpened.
If you can find them I imagine that the files for the hexa chain is $$, kind of like the double-bevel files for square cutters.
I know dealers in my area don't even know what hexa chain is. I found one in my ao that was able to order it. Tried to order two 28" loops and two files. I got one each and it took a couple months to get them.Looks very hoosk-farnish! Maybe Hexa chain is not selling that well...
