I'm telling you guys. This porting thing is just a silly fad.

Mark my words, by the year 2200 no one here will be still running a ported saw.
Not likely! There's always going to be somebody that wants more power! If there isn't then there's no point in living! I don't have nothing stock! Our tractors, combine,my pickup! What's the point of having boring stock equipment?

I hear banjos.....

I like the auxilliary exhaust port screwed on treemonkey. keep the screen! Haha. Five years ago I saw a guy pulling out of his fencerow loaded down with hedge. He'd made about a 1/4 mile run from the field to the highway and hadn't noticed a two foot high wall of flames coming out the back across the bed of his truck.

most of my saws go to loggers, screens need to be in place.

Great job Scott.

Is there any utility of polishing the exhaust port, or is it purely for looks.

I never got any gains doing it, so I don't waste any time with it

Thanks for putting this up Scott. Do you do much work to the lower trans where it enters the jug? Is this jug similar to the 2186?

widened the flange a tad is all

Nice build Scott thank you!

Do you advance the timing?
do you open all solid pistons up or just some. What does it do and how do you make it work

how many Dews does it take to do a 2188?

David

no timing advance

the skirt is trimmed under the wristpin to increase flow to the lowers
windowing the piston may or may not increase flow, but it does lighten it

more then one:)

I use to lighten pistons but stopped, have you tried only lightening one to see what kind of gain it is? I never did.

My 86 has the timing advanced only because Scott didn't know I had done it myself before i took him the saw, I should put it back to stock and compare I guess

LMFAO.

I've had a couple of saws in the hands of fallers that killed the recoil spool. I've dialed back the compression by taking .010 less out of the squish on the saws going to Ebels because of this. Those two saws are the only ones that I've have heard of issues from though.

had a inexperienced guy at the shop that wanted to run some of my ported saws. told him if ne could start them he could run them.
all went well until he got to the 064 highbred
he put it in the smooth concrete flour, foot in rear handle, gave it a hard pull, he ended up on his back on he flour with the saw on top of him. he wasn't hurt but had a wtf look on his face.

I advance a 390 but not a 372.
These saws are great runners but for some reason I never have liked a 390.
I've owned several but always sell them, maybe I should have Scott port one for me when I get another one.

My 064 hybrid and 066 and 394 have never been started by anybody but me, there have been some hilarious attemps.
