Is this a new problem?

How long have you had the saw?

Has the air temperature changed a lot? If so, are you running a winter blend of gasoline?

Try some canned fuel....

Recent to this winter and I’ve owned it for 4 years. It did sit for about a year when I was overseas. It seems worse after it warms up.

I have had canned gas in it and I run 40:1 e free 93 from Kwik trip, haven’t noticed a huge difference between them.

I will try the correct reset procedure.

I was under the impression that Stihl replaced the black solenoid with the white one and you couldn’t get the black.

I appreciate the feedback guys.

Try replacing the spark plug and the set plug gap at recommended spec. Cheap and takes 5 minutes. Also I would check all your cylinder and intake screws. Check the decomp... is it wet around it and leaky? Is it tight?

I did a full pressure vac test but I did forget to check the cylinder screws. Everything inside still looks mint.

Just do the reset correctly, then try to put a tank though it under heavy use. If it doesn't straighten out, check the carb to make sure the diaphragms are pliable, and that there is no trash in the screen.

And Mason is right....it is never a bad idea to change the spark plug.

Will do.

I have been a little concerned about the carb, I think I will put a new kit in it.

:nusenuse: No clue. There is a tech doc that says you have to change the black solenoid for the black and the white for the white and shouldn’t be interchanged. But if it worked for my no toothed friend up there then who am I to say otherwise. Maybe dnd 9000 can post up some mtronic tech docs that explain it. I thought redbull posted all the updated coil/solenoid kits that were available...I don’t think the 241 was on the list. Who knows....you guys know more than most dealers.

The white valve 0000 120 5104 is not to be used on the following chainsaws:
MS 201 C-EM, 201 TC-M, 241 C-M, 261 C-M, 441 C-M (This is what Stihl says, not me, so just believe it)

As I know it depends on the m-tronic version/firmware, but I don`t know the exact technical reason. The newer MS 201 and 261 versions can use it, because of the updated control unit (m-tronic v.3)

Also all the m-tronic clearing saws have the black valve. It is like it is and in most cases everything works fine.

Doesn’t really matter to me, usually makes for a good read when you and Ryan get in the same thread is all.

So is my 201 that's been running flawless for months with a white solenoid due to blow up soon ?

Stihl told me that I couldn't put the oil pump from a 461 in a 362....well....

Oh...and a 261 that runs great with a white one as well ?

FWIW the Stihl Mid Atlantic technical rep said the white solenoid was a universal upgrade. If it had a white solenoid from the factory you can’t install a black one tho. That’s all I got.
