Hi, the 620 costs 670 Sterling over here as I have to get it from the UK, a few weeks back I got a new CS 501 locally and am waiting on a quote from the shop I bought from, which is also technically in the UK (Northern Ireland).
I may be able to get an Irish Quote for a Shindaiwa of similar size, but as of yet am avoiding this dealer, because, he went to absolutely no trouble to get me a flocked filter for the Shindaiwa I bought from him in February, even though I bought my Jonsered 2153 there also.
That's $890 US dollars. Ouch. Do some research my friend. I could be wrong but I beat you can get a new built saw for pretty close to that shipped out of the US. If you have a 2153 jonsered I'd recommend that one getting a ablittle power additive.

Hi, thanks for the info on the muffler, I am not sure I understand what you mean regarding transfering the pattern to the muffler I bought, do you mean I sould leave my original gasket on the saw, take the gasket off the Dolmar muffler and then bolt the Dolmar muffler onto my 7900, or do I have to re cut the hole in the Dolmar muffler also so it matches the outlet in the barell, sorry for asking so much.
You will see it with both mufflers in hand. Your slr muffler. Makes the cylinder have a bigger exhaust outlet. So if you take the gasket on your saw it matches the outlet deminsions. And set it in the back of your new muffler you'll see how much you can grind out. You don't have to. Just makes things flow nicer

Hi Deets066
I have not set eyes on the Echo 620 either, but at least I can do so
before I buy, I currently can not get my hands on the 6100, or 7300, but I have no issues with the quality I see in my 7900 and no reason to doubt the 6100 or 7300 would be and different.
If I be honest, I like the Echo as it has more torque and runs at
lower revs, I could probably get away with a bigger rim drive rim
on it too, but the weight is beginning to sink in, the 6100 being the lightest makes me think.
The 6400/7300/7900 are basically all the same saw. If you have a 7900. You won't want a 7300. As far as the power of a 620 vs 6100 in stock form. Well paging @fordf150

Nate can ya help a guy out? I've not set hands on a 620 yet. I know the 590/600 isn't in the same playing field. Lol.

The saws you are looking at (7300 & 620) are both good saws.
The 7300 will almost be the same in caraturistcs as you 7900 up to a 28 in bar then the 7900 takes over, so it will be very similar.
The 620 is what I call an over built saw. This saw will last. With a very simple muffler mod you will bring out its full stock potential. Stock it will pull a 28” full comp 3/8th chain. It does have VERY GOOD torque for a saw it’s size. Get it ported and it will run with any 70cc saw. It handles well and my ONLY issue with it is the handles are closer together than I like making it some what uncomfortable as in comparison to a Dolmar/Mikita.
Either one you pick is a winner!!! If you looking at only running an 18 inch bar consider an Echo 590. Pretty much the same as a 620 only limited coil being the biggest difference. You should be able to save yourself some money that way.

Never thought about the CS 590, looked at the 600 specs somewhere and decided the 620 was a lot better for a very slight increase in weight, must look up the 590.

Thanks for commenting, john

590s are $400 USD here. If its to high there some one here could probably ship ua one if it works out cheaper.

A 7300 doesn't close the gap you're talking about, in my opinion, since it's the same size and weight as the 7900. I agree with the guys suggesting a port job on one of your 50cc saws it sounds like you have a few candidates, and in my opinion, a ported 50cc is gonna be cheaper than buying a new saw, and more impressive with an 18" bar.

Hi Ryan Browne
The gap am trying to close is not as straight forward as I make out.
I have three different saw brands as I stand, and I have to consider the possability of interchangeable parts, even bar and chains make it easier to keep up and running, hens my Makita conundrum.
The 6100 will fill the cc gap, but nothing off it would fit the 7900
so no redundancy there.

The Echo CS 620 fill the gap in that I have a dealer not too far away, so parts will be available new, as opposed to my Makita plan of similar saws that I can swap parts on.

I have a Stihl / Husqvarna dealer locally, but he sold me a 370XP with a bread knife sized bar, argued black and blue it was what comes on them even though I noted the proper bar on them before I ordered, so not giving him my custom, for all it would have taken to swap out the bar and chain at cost price, he lost many a sale.

And so the head scratching continues.
On a positive note though, there is a good choice,
and when all is done and dusted something will come up
at the right money, am not in a hurry.

Thanks, john

May think about a 6400 Dolmar..... same class as 7900, everything will interchange. You can use any bar up to a 24 with good results, same feel as 7900, same brand.
Sure nothing wrong with a 6400 and again save some cash compared to a 7300....in most cases.

Look-see my signature!

All a matter of preference.

I almost bought another PS-7310 even though the one I own has yet to bite any wood since she's in my possession.

In my eyes there are no gaps, I take the saw that will be the most fun to run for a given task!
It tended to be a tossup between my PS-6400 and the PS-7900, now it'll be a triple tossup with the PS-7310 added as an option.

Hi Wilhelm, good to hear from you.
I would really call it quits if I could get a 6400,
but none are for sale in my area, am guessing
the 6100 replaces it in most respects.
But 6400 appeals more to me given the parts fit a 7900,
chain and bar are 3/8 which the 6100 is not,
and a little more economy over the 7900,
that ticks a lot of boxes, but I can't get one.

Thanks, john

Just found a 6400, same money as 6100,
older tech versus newer tech, what do the
experts think, Wilhelm, would you swap your
6400 for a 6100.
Does any one know if the bar off a 6100 will
fit a 7900, that would really make a diference as I
would only need to change the drive rim as I have chains.

I estimate roughly 30% better fuel economy on my stock Dolmar PS-6400 over "MY" Dolmar PS-7900 - that's a notable amount!

I assume that the fuel savings are little bit less when comparing a PS-6400 against a stock PS-7910 (which has an SLR muffler).

As long as I am able to lift and use any chainsaw I will most likely not let my Dolmar PS-6400 go!

Swapping my PS-6400 out for a PS-6100 also isn't in the cards, I mean WHY - because of 1LBS of weight?!
I don't care about a whole kg or two, and I don't use my saws enough to even care about a few mililiters of fuel savings per tank fill up.

Everything is interchangeable among the entire Dolmar 64xx/73xx/79xx and Makita 64xx/73xx/79xx saw family - bars, sprockets, chains, individual parts (with rare exeptions), everything is compatible from one to the other!
The entire Dolmar/Makita 64xx/73xx/79xx line comes from the factory with D009 (large Husqvarna) bar mount, and 3/8" pitch standard (large) spline rim sprocket.
The only difference appears to be in the chains gauge which is partially depending on where the saw is sold - but in Europe Dolmar mostly ships with .058"/1.5mm, whereas Makita seems to be equipped with .050"/1.3mm gauge.

The Dolmar PS-6100 also utilizes 3/8" pitch chain, but the bar is small Husqvarna mount - as such the bars are not directly interchangeable between Your PS-7900 and a PS-6100!

Again, it is a matter of personal preference.
Your personal info indicates that You are a little bit older than me.
The question is how well do You handle Your PS-7900?
If she feels heavy to You, You might wanna take a closer look at a PS-6100 or PS-5105.
If You feel You can work with Your PS-7900 all day long and hardly wait to start the next day, then go ahead and get a PS-64xx or PS-73xx!
I sure don't regret having bought my triplets, and I am anxious to handle quadruplets at some point!

Don't tell me, I know I've got a screw loose and a couple missing - it's a non unified thread and I can't replace them at this point in my life! :D

I do want ALL Dolmar PS-64xx/73xx/79xx saws! ! ! :aplastao:

And not just one of each... :D
Hi Wilhelm, thanks for the enlightening information,
it would seem the 6400 though older model will fit in
better with the rest of the family.

I bought a Dolmar 7900 muffler to put on my Makita 7900,
so the 6400 will represent a fair saving on fuel.

The 108 looks like a piece that feell of the bigger ones.

Thanks Wilhelm, time to go counting the beans.
