Careful. You’re assuming the base was square with the bore from the factory.

A crazy discovery the first time one finds it.

Had it on pistons as well. By about .002. Drove me nuts.

Ive found Stihl OEM jugs as far out as .009 at the edge of the base on the new wider bases.

Still setup, fixture, indicating. Not hard, but time consuming.

I never really measured it. I centered off the bearing bore and made it the diameter I wanted. Seems it took a pretty even cut the whole way around so they must be pretty true to shape.

They need a little bit of taper to release from the die when casting them, that looks like more than what's needed.

No, these cases didn't have that much.

A boring head, or fly cutter would work too. Lots of different ways.
Doesn’t really have to be machined, some guys do it by hand too. I like it nice and purdy though.
