Carb work is definitely fussy and frustrating. Can’t blame you for sending it out! A modded 395 is a good time.
I'm probably going to be dealing with the choke pull randomly coming out for a while longer. It's rarely an issue while milling, and that's the only thing I do with this saw.

Have you noticed any abnormal wear? I see so many conflicting opinions, but nobody around to actually tell me real life experience. I am really thinking about ordering a loop or two along with the updated bar nose steering design.

@Lightning Performance What tools do I need to make my own loops? I'm really considering ordering the Archer brand low profile ripping chain in a 25' roll. They claim it is a direct fit replacement for the Stihl 63PMX chain.

I'm seeing all of the blue painted units are made by whoever sells to harbor freight. Is Tecomec worthy of my money? Elsewise I'll have to spend some more coin on Oregon stuff.

Just purchase a nice solid unit and stay away from stamped steel ones. But, it's your money and many different opinions.

How do I know which ones are the "nice solid units"? Never had to shop for a spinner or breaker before. Clearly I'm only finding chainsaw stuff as an adult and did not grow up around this trade.

Looks like the Oregon stuff is just rebranded Tecomec... So this kind of makes up my mind.

Placed my order for 25' of milling chain, TsuMura solid bar with sprocket nose, and the Tecomec set with spinner and breaker.

Since I am going to be making my own loops, what is a 16" bar like on a 395xp? I am working on 4x4's/fence posts right now and I certainly don't need a 20"+ bar for that. Am I mistaken in thinking it would rip through small logs much faster than using the long bar? I'm definitely making some 72DL loops as well.

Most of the mature spruce trees on my property are 24" DBH and less. I also know my 45hp tractor loader will will struggle with 12' long 24" logs, much less anything longer or hardwoods.

Like this old one. Tree service bought it used from saw shop. I have done 5-100 foot rolls through it on his 6th. Did 1 for myself and 25' of square ground.

Looks like it is cast iron, but I couldn't find anything for sale like that online new or used. I don't really have the option of just waiting for nice tools to fall in my lap. I'm going to try the Tecomec stuff since it looks just like everything else for sale online.

A grinder or flat file. A tiny ball peen hammer works nice.

Breakers and spin are for us spoiled bishes lol.

You can also get a hand held mini spinner or spinner/breaker but they suck.

When moving up from grinding or filing off a link it was to go with a center punch breaker with a chain holder anvil. Still using that same one on my second breaker tool. You really only need one spinner or that peen tool. It's just a cupped punch nothing more.

My one breaker is cast iron the other is aluminum of some poured type. Not standard cast imo. They both work great and are old Oregon tools. The spinner is a cheap stamped steel orange newer knockoff with the offset handle Z back toward the tool. It also has plastic chain guides but a good bearing in the spinner portion with two anvils and two spinner bolts.
They suck... tried one once.

I own that old Oregon cast iron breaker and it eats machine chain 404 like nothing.

You just need a tiny saw.
Your 20" bar will kill 25" trees all day everyday with ease.
40-1 cause we can make this an oil thread :D

A 39x with a 20" or less bar needs a nine pin to be practical lol
Says it again out loud lol
Good luck wif your forearms while trimming. They might fall off :p
