I put a straight edge against the Sid wood the bar and a cutter, the cutter tipped sideways enough that it did not hold the straight edge away from the bar. Groove too sloppy.

I think in order to properly repair the groove, it needs to be pinched closed pretty tight and re-ground out.

Anyone have experience with this, like on a bar shop?

I actually have a mess of old worn bars…

I wouldn't pinch the groove closed too tightly and then re-grind the because you'll weaken the rails at the top.

We used to close the rails to spec, grind the groove a little deeper, and then square the rails off. If the face of
the rails was badly worn, then we'd get them square and take them over to the local machine shop and they would
hard-face them. It's worth it on a quality bar like a Cannon, old Woodsman Pro/Oregon Pro, Sugihara, or General.
It's usually not worth it on the modern Oregon/Stihl bars and cheaper brands. I'm not in the know on the current
Sugihara or Tsumura bars.
