Finally got hold of a current Stihl price book showing what's still available. In 404 they list the following here in Australia

All 063 gauge

46RM
46RMF - skip
46RS
46RSLF
46RMX - Ripping

Now for the strange stuff

46RMH - 063 harvester
40RMH - 080 harvester
46RCX - ripping chipper. Tried ordering, no luck
45RSF - 058 gauge, full chisel skip chain. Apparently can be ordered.

40RMHS - 080 harvester

Does 404 help with chip flow problems like the chain being locked solid in the bar as if by chaps? Siberian elm, which is no elm, but like cottonwood.
Hm, the Siberian Elm here is nothing at all like the local Cottonwood. It is actually the most common and decent hardwood we have here in the Boise valley. It burns like a good Maple but takes longer to dry and can be stringy at times.

Oregon 52AJ, .404/.063, sq chisel, skip. Probably 30 yrs old.
I’m looking for presets that fit it. The current 59J has different ids.

404 has better ship flow. But idk if that helps with ur problem. Can u try a skip chain?
I’m running skip square. 30” cannon bar was ok. 32” stihl was really bad. I need to inspect the bars. The only thing I can think of is worn out rails. Gonna check chain brand too.

I usually cut desert hardwood where chip flow isn’t an issue, but also ponderosa and other pines and firs. I need to check my vid and see what I used on the cottonwood a while back.

I think about bar oil, lubrication?
461 cranked up, coming off the tip. 30” was ok previous day.

Some trees were quite wet.

I checked my cottonwood vid with 288 and I think I was running “long” 36” old worn cannon 119 driver and it did choke once, nowhere near as bad as this old stihl bar. Husky square skip on the cannon.

Okay, I have seen many with bad lubrication over the years. Thats why I talk about it. Especialy with the non mineral oil.

I checked that stihl bar and it failed the straight edge test.
In which way? Across the top of the rails, or bar plate tweaked? My Dad had a Hardnose Stihl and wore and ground them so far he had to grind the bottom of the drive links ..so the tie straps would set on the rails. He used a table saw with a stone in it to true the rails.

Hopefully he cleared out the sawdust first :p
