Lawn Grass I.D?

Hey Guys,

I've been toying over either re-seeding or throwing down Bermuda sod in my front yard.
I reside outside of Birmingham, AL...so it gets mighty hot & humid during the summer months.
Before I invest in either of these options, I took note of what's growing thick and hearty in my yard, yet it's a grass I'm unfamilar with.
If I can find the seeds for this I can match my current grass and seed it into bare spots.
Currently this grass covers about 85% of my yard.
If no one can ID by my pics, where could I send some clipping samples to and obtain a positive ID?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My theory on grass is if it holds the dirt down I'm happy.

Crab grass for sure, A very sorry type of grass, but if you want it to spread just water and fertilize it .

I've certainly been watering/fertilizing it and it's a certainly spreading!

Never seen crabgrass so fluffy, green, and pretty!!!

Gotta keep the old yard in decent shape Dub...it's just the way I'm wired!
Truth be told...I'm overkill on chainsaws based on how much & how often I really use em...I JUST LUV EM THOUGH!!!

the problem is that its got such a different color and a very coarse leaf blade. if the previous photos had been zoomed out a bit, you can see how ridiculous it looks in an established lawn. its easy and cheap to prevent, $22 bag of fert at the right time in the spring. done.

It eventually died out. I need to get the front yard resodded with Bermuda.
Yet...I did find a few bunches of this stuff thriving in my mega-shaded backyard and need to find out what it is.

No idea what it is but I pull those clumps up by hand or use a Grandpa's Weeder tool, from my backyard under a couple of big oaks...root ball pulls up fairly easy.

You can always try your university website. Our UW website has a lot of info on what it is, what mix is best, how to test soil and a bunch of more stuff to help you waste more time cutting lawn.

Fine fescue, could be creeping, red, dwarf etc. but it's a variety of fine fescue. Fine fescue generally isn't as heat or drought tolerant but does better in shade. Broad Brush Generalization.

Some of it looks like sedge. I like the short sedges, I think I have a couple varieties here, and I also like what I think is a short red rescue growing in the shade here.

Sedge has triangular seed stems, this is a seed pod on one in my yard.

I think short red rescue is my favourite, but I have a tall but thin sedge like grass around here I really like.
