A guy on BCUSA conducted a rust test with various steels. I think for 38 or 39 days. Here is the end result.
Pretty eye opening.

A little oil goes a long way.

Yes,1080,1084,0-1,80crv2,L7,W2,D2 ....... no stainless, I don't care for it personally.

Not a stainless fan much as well.

I am a fan of D2 tool steel.

#3 Randall 5 inch tool steel is the finest knife I ever used. Leather handle with finger grooves .

#7 is a very close 2nd

This new knife I have not used yet, but I think it's going to be a damn good knife , has great balance in the hand

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm diggin the Damascus steel and burly handle. Nice blade profile too. I like the large grind.

I’ve tinkered with the idea of forging some blades. A guy I have had make me a few has offered to help get me started. I read you were in AL, what part? I’ve been to several classes through Randall’s Adventure and Training.

There’s a thread somewhere where we’ve posted up many EDC’s, etc. Marshall may’ve started it a good while back if memory serves correct.

He orders tool steel blanks from Sweden ,

He charged me 260 ,

Let me take a couple of pics , look how he thinned the blank to balance the knife .

Very nicely crafted. The unground blade texture made it look like Damascus in your original post. At least to me it did.
