Bob is brilliant. I have learned a lot from the saw model videos he has done on Husq and jonsred. @Spike60 have you done a video on the 281 or 288 saws? Also the 298, 2100, and 2101? We need some solid history on those models.

Joe just asked about a 288 vid yesterday. Talked to Walt over the weekend and we just gotta pick a time to do it. Not a ton of variations like many other chassis, so it could be quick and informative.

Now on those big saws.............. you guys need to tell Walt @afleetcommand to get his 298 up and running. I've been nagging him for over a year on that one. I've got a couple 2100's, 285CD, 480CD. Want to call it "Heavy Metal Huskys". But he doesn't like to do a topic if he doesn't have a saw of his own. I get that, cause going through one is how you get to know what makes it tick. Kind of hard to talk about it without having the experience of building one.

You could do it at the Mastermind GTG next month, "Listen up everyone, class is in session." :D

Id miss it. Gonna be at Disney World (kids first time... actually Kari's first time too.):)

When I was a kid, I would have actually preferred something chainsaw related over Disney World. Went there when I was 5 and don't remember a darn bit of it. But I do remember hours spent in the woods with dad and his little Homie Super 2!

My 2 daughters fight over going to work with me every day in the summer time- which means hours in the truck. Most days I have to take both of them.Thats how they want to spend their summers. Ive been tripping over them since they could walk. I know that won't last forever- and I dread it, so I never say, "no, not today." They work with me plenty, this is just me giving them more than I had growing up.

Walt, @afleetcommand
I have to agree with Bob here, not only will you enjoy working on that saw, you will never forget firing it up for the first time. It's like having a small dirt bike engine in your hands, very impressive machine. You won't regret it, I guarangalldangtee it. :)

Purchasing Agent for TSC says they are buying out anything left of the current Jonsered inventory and blowing out at retail.
Stores don't get to order anything they will just be sent additional inventory of whatever they have been actually selling before the closeout.
So if you want a cheaper 2166 or 2188 find a store that was already selling them, apparently.
A location that sold mostly little homeowner saws will get more of the same.
Your mileage may vary, when i asked yesterday about buying a bunch of saws they didn't have at TSC location they made a call and then put me on the phone with him.
No 2166 or 2188 for me so far, but I need one like i need a third kneecap anyway, just found myself next to a TSC and wondered how cheap they might be.

Did they give any indication on when this sale will take place? There are a few stores around here that stock a 2166

Supposedly going on now, the TSC I was in had several homeowner models at significant discounts, 2245 was $179.00, forget what the retail said it was but it was a good percentage off and all the Jonsereds were marked down.

According to the website the regular price is $329.99.

So, what are they going to replace Jonny with, if anything. My guess would be 2 or 3 Poulan models. Remington has been making a serious play for the big box store market too.

There is also rebate available from now until Oct through the dealer network. So, that plus guys dumping saws can add up to some nice discounts. The rebates are done by the customer, not the dealer, and you get a visa gift card with in about 6 weeks.

As an example, I'm selling the 2260 and 2166 for $550 PHO, which brings them down to $500 after the rebate. How this is possible is that I bought some "bakers dozen" deals and I'm cost averaging the "free" saw into the pricing of the rest.

My rep stopped in on Friday. There is a lot of product still in the pipeline, both at the distributor and factory level. His company is not yet offering any discounts on Jonsered product, which is surprising to me. Unless there are deep discounts, like say 20%, I won't bring in any more product. A dead brand isn't something to have around.

He also said that reaction from dealers is not exactly what you'd call exciting. I told him I wasn't interested in Red Max saws. What are they gonna add next? Red Max guitars? Red Max hockey sticks? :)

TSC was never all that happy with getting Jonsered. In part because Lowes was able to retain Husky on their so called "exclusive" mass retail channel agreement. The name change didn't help, but the failure there is not so much the brand, as the attempt to sell higher price points in that type of store. Try that in an area where Jonsered is an unknown and it's hopeless. 90% of what box stores sell in all OPE segments is entry level stuff. They struggle to sell higher price points The reason the 450 Rancher exists is that Lowes griped that the price of the 455 went past the $400 mark, so the answer was to stick the word "rancher" on the 450.

Redmax guitars and hockey sticks. Well, I bet those would sell well in the northern areas where landscapers love Redmax! That's what keeps gnawing at me about this whole deal. Take a brand with a long saw history and plenty of die hard fans but little commercial use and mass market recognition, and replace it with a brand that has even less of the same when it comes to saws. They already tried essentially the same thing with lawn mowers for Jonny and it was a spectacular failure. Jonsered has deep roots in chainsaws just as Redmax/Zenoah is grounded in weedeaters and blowers. Redmax is a bit player/outlier at best in North America when it comes to saws, and Stihl/Husky have a stranglehold on the pro saw market, with Echo and Dolmar scrambling for the leftovers. Where exactly are they going to make up for the "failure" of Jonsered by pushing Redmax saws? Usually, when I see a Redmax saw being used or offered for sale it is disguised as a Jonny or Husky!

Still want a 2188...
