Slight detour related to our Deere refurb is replacing the side cover on our Wards 5.0" beater.

Broken at the bottom spike mount.

Can't have that!

Some day I should modify a wrench to make it easier to get the tube fitting off.

Rats!! Large amount of bar oil in the crankcase.[emoji37]. The oiler check must be blown.
The oil tank was holding pressure and I 'burped' it every time I ran him.

Fixed.

Got the Homie piston back from my friend and mocked it up with one ring in the top groove. Crown has .040"+ clearence.

Add flywheel and starter in the morning.

Preliminary compression check:

The geezer gets it to 60 psi but he stalls out.

Needs help holding it on the floor and pulling the rope, he does.

Put it together dry. I didn't want any oil to influence a comp reading.

We got 90 psi. No oil, dry cylinder and one ring. Base gasket is .033".

Going to leave the piston crown alone.

Now the paint prep drudgery begins.

Just discovered the flywheel side bearing is wider than the PTO side.
Torrington BH-1010.
Should have looked closer at the IPL.

Edit: Measured the length thru the case bore. We have enuff room for a 3/4" long bearing plus the 1/8" seal width.
We are going to upgrade the overhung load capacity.[emoji6]

Used blue Locktite on the rod bolts.

The Torrington drawn cup needle bearings have a flat end and a rounded end.

Flat end goes against the roller thrust race (hard flat washer).

Put the rest of the gingerbread on him tomorrow. Skeeters be eating me up.

Put the manual oil pump w/lines on separate of the carb box/handle. Much easier.

Should have painted a test piece or two. Something to go by for fuel resistance.

I soooo much want to fire up this puppy.

Paint ended up just right. Not too shiny and slick.

It isn't a car fender.
