So I get this 024 Stihl at a dealer,complete for 50 bucks .All I did was gut the muffler,retuned and use it .Cut fine except after about a half a tank it suffered in the chain department.It had guard chain on it .
Enough of that ,put on a nice non guard round chisel,cut better still had to file after a half a tank .I thought it was that rock hard dead ash .Then after filing half the cutters away it dawned on me the chain was walking around in the bar slot .Only then did I look at the damned bar,OEM Stihl .Plain as day .325,67 drive links , .063 .Some dummy was using .50 .Guilty as charged ,duh

I've occasionally in a pinch gotten 058 chain to work with an 063 bar but never 050. Not to mention that the 063 bar slot could be as wide as 066 or more when it wears and yours was likely not new.

You got an 024 for $50? That was a bargain and a half. I wish dealers around here would offer deals like that. I spent $150 rebuilding one for a customer after his brother ran over it with a pickup truck. It runs today.

I've hauled a bunch of Stihls from one dealers dead pile and every one of them runs and runs good today .The best was an Ms 200t they thought had thrown a rod or ate a piston for 20 dollars .It had lost the pin from the brake band which lodged itself in the balancing hole in the flywheel .20 minutes I had it running .
Now the 050 chain that was on that 024 I just assumed that's what the size was .Who ever owned it before never paid attention either .I should be getting the replacement by weeks end .Flea bay I don't fool with these local yokels .
