This is starting to be marketed as a alternative to virgin olive oil. The crop was mostly grown for animal feed and bio fuel

What a crock. Canola has to be processed to be fit for human consumption. It also has be completely compromised by GMO contamination so no certified organic or even "natural" label. It's great stuff but the marketers are reaching a bit.

Agreed. Good luck getting canola oil to replace olive oil.

I dont know enough to comment on the need to process Oil seed Rape before human consumption but i dont think we have GMO crops of any sort allowed in the UK...yet !
Admittedly ...organic could be thought of as " Difficult to do in a Air born" sense if you have non O and other farms in close quarters.
Anyhow...the pic is just 1 of many brands and the more mundane is readily available as the basic veg cooking oil on the suppermarket shelves .

Anyone using butter as bar oil? Probably only work in the summer. With the right wood, though I'm thinking it'd smell delightful.

I should have said compromised in North America. There is no certified Organic canola in the US or Canada anymore due to genetic drift. I'm surprised Monsanto hasn't sued Organic farmers for patent infringement.

I use a canola oil as a wetting agent/drift reducer when I spray weeds. It's awesome in that role - until we were spraying town footpaths and a kid had a serious allergic reaction.
Turns out canola oil allergy is closely linked to peanut allergy - but significantly more uncommon.
We had sprayed a kindergarten car park early in the morning, literally a few weeds in the cracks in the bitumen, the kid picked up some residual somehow a few hours later and got sick.

I come back to the reason i use "Oil Seed Rape" ...its a economic way for me to dilute a costly bar oil.

Once in a while I'm outside working with the saw, and the sun is just at the right angle.....you can really see that you're standing in a fine mist cloud of bar oil.

I watch what I am doing, but maybe if you watch the mist shower long enough you'll see a pretty rainbow!
