If there is anyone that is interested (only just found this thread). Iv been substituting about 80% of bar oil that has the "anti fling" property with veg oil for 5 yrs now. For me in the UK the cost saving is large ! . Have used neat veg oil with no detectable issues for general firewood and ground maintenance work as well but i decided to keep a bit of the bought in bar oil in the mix for whatever benefit to oiling the anti fling additive can give. Rape seed oil is what I use and as im someone who tends to keep the saw cleaned down regularly iv had no mess issues at all . I get saws come in from sort-wood harvesting that are a mess from the sap/resin rather than from a direct result of using ECO bar oil that is veg based with anti fling in it. The Pic is of the oil i use to mix with more of the rape seed oil and is the same stuff that used without dilution seems no bother mess wise.

I figured it was likely the name for it in the US...Its sold in the shops here for cooking and they dont bother to call it anything more than "veg oil" ....further down the carton it says its "rapeseed oil"

There was a deliberate "name change" here in Australia 20 or 30 years ago. Saying it was a new thing might have been stretching it.
