Is this a 461 ?

This ia my father in laws saw and he said it was near impossible to start without breaking the pull rope . Im pretty sure he is drop starting it cause i had no problems starting it but i did notice when i had it running that it was sloppy like it was missing mounts or something but just turns out that rhe case is broken and worn through. Is this common on this saw? Im not that familiar with stihl saws but i would like to repair this for him.

Looks like damage from repeatedly throwing a chain. Hard to tell the model from those pictures, give us a shot of the whole saw please.

Yeah my father in law is a logger and if i remember correctly this saw had the fuel tank pulled from the motor when it was about a month old. Lol he is rough on equipment

461 has decomp angled to the clutch side and the 046/460 was forward

also the flywheel side case on 460 is square beside the muffler and the 461 is rounded like the recoil

Ok now to stary looki g for parts. He says this is the best 70cc class saw he has owned . Im not sure he has beat any of his huskys as bad as this. We willsee how bad it is when i get into it this week.

i dont think the 461 has a top plastic mount on the clutch side they do have 2 on the flywheel side and the top

Like i said this thing is a mutt. He doesnt take care of things. Im not sure it will be worth repairing this thing but ill get a parts list for him and find out if he wants to fix it.

046/460 cases and P/C are different than 461 cases and P/C along with plastics and maybe a few other things.

I agree that the saw has had a rough life...

When a 461 recoil is on a 460 only 3 of the 4 bolts will be used, but it will work.

AM tank holders and plastics are available, I would recommend OEM replacement vibration dampeners. I would also use the OEM control levers on the AM tank holder (if you get one of them).

I think I have some useable case halves if you need them, but I won't have time to dig them out till after the end of Tax Season (4/15).

I've seen more than one 460 get hard to start because the carb starts leaking fuel into the crank case causing some hydro lock. Likely the carb needs a rebuild.

This is a MS 460. Hard to say if it is worth to rebuilt it. You would also be able to identify it by the carb being used.
