Hello all,

So i'm kinda in a dilemma. I have an 046 that I am pondering selling. I was wondering if it was worth it to have my 044c sent out to be ported or if its worth hybridized into an 046 and having it ported or should I have my super clean 064 ported. I have a buyer lined up for the 046 but i'm not sure it would be smart to sell it to have another saw ported. I mostly run a 25 on it and i know the 044 will do the job no problem. What do you think is the smart idea? And is anyone willing to do the work on the 044?

Thanks for the help!
Tim

If your 044 is a “C” model it will likely be a 10mm wrist pin saw. To build a 044/046 hybrid you need a 12mm wrist pin saw.
Whats the serial number of your 044?

If you actually use the saw full time with a 25 and want only to keep one of the 3 I wood have to pick the 046. Put a HO oiler/max flo with the spikes of your preference and go to town. The 64 is a legend and hybrids are fun... but the ported 46 will do everything the other two will. My advice: keep them all. Lol

It is the auto choke but its has an 440 tank on it now, I believe they took the auto choke out. And i will grab the serial number this weekend.
I plan on keeping both the 64 and the 44. And the 46 has seen better days its a awesome saw but not a saw i would port. Its probably on its 8th life, I believe it was an amish saw which was beat like a red headed step child.
Thanks guys!

But for real, if you will be only running a 25” bar, keeping the 460 is your best bet IMHO. Get it ported and get an HO pump. You’ll be able to cut with a 25 and swap to a 36 whenever needed. It should pull away from a hybrid 446 as the bar gets longer.

A hybrid is a $1000 saw no matter how you look at it. You’ll need to supply a (now scarce) 046/460 jug, a piston (oem now around $90 new), pay the porter their price and generally the porter gets to keep the 044 top end as extra payment for the extra work involved in the conversion.

So you save a pound or 2 of weight over an 046, and you lose more oil and tank volume, oiling, and a stronger crankshaft. They made the 046 for a reason.

The 064 is legendary. Ported, it should outrun all of the others. But it’s also bigger and bulkier.

046 is a keeper, unless you sell to me. Port it if it's a regular runner that you keep.

You all convinced me to keep it! I ended up finding an 036 that hopefully fill the void of the guy I was pondering selling my 46 too. Guess he'll just have to suck it up. I wouldn't port the 46, shes seen better days, still a solid saw but not one I would think is worth the effort. Shes like a bomb could let go at any time. I think I might follow doc's idea and keep them all and save for a ported 462. I might get shot if i get another one but :roto2nuse::roto2nuse:
