Out of curiosity I looked through the new 2018 Stihl catalog.

A 261cm is priced higher than a new PS-7910 costs (~1000$).
Once I've seen that the list price for a 462 is identical to the price of a 661 I just stopped browsing.

No brand bashing, I'm just caught off guard and by surprise.
I feel if Stihl bring the 462 out at the same price as the 661 it could seriously play into husqvarnas hand but somehow I don’t think so .Stihl will only charge what the market will bear ,the USA must have the lions share of the world market per capita just my 2 cents worth :)

Do either of you guys have a 28" ES Light bar? Would you mind showing us how it balances when held by the top handle? Thanks.

Hi Brad,

you can see some balancing in the follow clip - excluding the 462. But maybe it help to do a preview to the 462 balancing by comparing with the MS 441 CMVW (even it’s a view pound lighter)

Hopefully it will shorten the time until we have pictures with a 28” light bar.

I wouldn't think there would be that much of a difference in countries but retail on a 261 C-M is $579.95, retail is $1219.95 for the 661 here and I ASSume that the 462 will come in around the low $11xx as that's just a whisker above the 461.

I didn't pull what I posted out of my hat.
Official 2018 Stihl online catalogs:
- Croatian: http://www.unikomerc-uvoz.hr/katalozi/stihl2018/
- German: https://www.stihl.de/static/stihl-katalog/html5/index.html

They load slow for me, here are some screenshots for those who won't bother loading the links.

Those prices are ridiculous, I sure ain't paying that!

Use Google currency converter to get an idea how much those things sum up in USD for us in Croatia/Germany.

Sweet saw! You won't regret it! I've ran a few and love them. I'd love to get a 461 for myself but can't justify it at the moment. I have an 041 super and a 661 (which I've had lots of problems with but since all of the electronics have been replaced with all updated ones I couldn't be happier with it) . Believe me if I enough just because play money laying around I'd have a 461 in my stable just because!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a logger or tree guy mention “that saw is too heavy” or “that saw is so light”. If the saw isn’t making them money then they complain.
cant say I have ever had a logger/tree guy even ask about weight, they know the CC/HP range they are looking for and the only other thing they care about is price.

Is that slight tip forward what everyone looks for in the perfect balance?

Hi Chevy,
imho are the Stihl ES light bars are great and improve the balance a lot. Unfortunately they aren't as stiff as full steel bars, you feel the difference at 28". Up to 20" it doesn't make a significant difference.

Imho you have to choose the bar length "as short as possible and as long as needed".

I use on the MS 462 18" or 20" - I would use a 19" bar if that bar would exist.

What do you mean by "tight"?

To choose the right bar on to a chainsaw is an easily way to increase the working speed by removing branches from the tree and decrease to get tired at work.

With the right technology of cutting it’s possible to cut trees which has twice of diameter of the length of the bar. And you save much weight.

Enjoy follow balance clip with the MS 462 and several different bars.

All saws are completely ready to run fulfilled with lubricant and alkylate gasoline. All chains are brand new, the saws are cleaned (the 462 would be probably the dirtiest saw of them), they are all using 7 pin rim 3/8”.

Thanks fore asking ;-)

I've been wanting to get a light bar for a while now. So when you said it wasn't as tight I thought you were talking about the rails flaring out and the chain flopping about. But yes I'e read what your talking about with it being floppy and stuff.

Both my 28" and my 36" bars are "light" bars. I have used them for milling and believe they are pretty durable.

The handling difference with a light bar is significant. My 28" Stihl light bar, is significantly lighter than my Sugi 28" light bar, and I much prefer it.

Steph remember me I forgot the 562 xpg in the balance comparison. He was right.

In this new version of comparison you can find out about the 462 can definitely fight in the 60ccm class.

Enjoy:

Hi Mike,
no question the ES light bars are very good and I like them and prefer to use them. When you work with sense, ther wouldn’t be any other bar above them. Some forestry workers who are working under high pressure use the bar to leverage the kerf out :-/ I think there you will feel the difference.
