Swapped out a 461 cylinder with a new Hyway kit.
Old cylinder was perfect inside but customer failed at installing a thread insert and reemed it out badly.
I promised Randy I would do a thread so I took a bunch of pics while doing the swap .
Nothing special but everyone loves pics.IMG_0536.jpg IMG_0537.jpg IMG_0535.jpg

Bore measured exactly the same, I left the OEM piston.
I didn't check timing as I am in the process of moving my shop and things are crazy

IMG_0539.jpg Piston before cleaningIMG_0544.jpg After cleaningIMG_0543.jpg First I carefully scraped heavy carbon from piston with a razor blade, then I use PB Blaster on a scotch bright pad to polish off the staining, Do this with the saw laying on its side so as to not get carbon into the case

Thank You for the offer!
I've been doing little by little and making OK progress so far.
I will take you up on that beer sometime though

Also get some oil in the cylinder and a little grease in the intake boot

IMG_0550 (1).jpg NubbinIMG_0549.jpg The nubbin in pic #1 is keeping the muffler from seating properly. Lesson learned- Trim Nubbin before installing cylinder.

IMG_0552 (1).jpg Stock Nubbin rests against muffler perfectlyIMG_0553 (1).jpg AM Nubbin needs to be trimmed quite a bit. Glad I didn't keep cranking the muffler screws in. I personally think that this is done on purpose because of Stihl design protection and patent type stuff.

OK to summarize:
The new Hyway cylinder is very nice and well built.
The plating and bevels were very nice and casting flash was minimal .
Fitment was good overall except for the nubbin.
Nubbin was an easy fix and muffler bolted up perfect after grinding.
Saw fired up on first pull and tuned well.
I am very happy with this cylinder and would definitely run one on my own saw.

Just checked squish with gasket and it's right at .028. Not bad at all
Checked a Stihl gasket and it was .034 so I'm gonna say negative on the gasket delete unless you cut squish or replace gasket with something super thin.

Sixgun: I did a piston and cylinder with a hyway kit for a 440 for a customer.

I gave him options of a Stihl OE kit or the Hyway for half the $$. He chose the Hyway kit. Customer was at the point of getting a new saw if he had to buy the Stihl kit.

Seems to be a decent kit as you've described.

Saw started and tuned easy. Demonstrated to customer, he was pleased and haven't heard back from him in a while. Last I was told the saw is running well.

No problem Randy.
Hopefully soon I'll have time to do a cool build thread with some porting and stuff.
