This build is for a good friend of mine. Not completely sure on the cylinder just yet, but it's going to be a 272. I have all the other parts ready.

If you are interested in checking out a direct comparison of a 272 Hyway Titanikel p&c and a 272 OEM cylinder p&c, check out my other thread - https://opeforum.com/threads/oem-272-cylinder-compared-with-hyway-titanikel-272.26503/

Tillotson 224a carb from a 266 (same venturi diameter as the 272 carb, but it's set up for the older style saws that have the idle screw in the case)
Carb rebuild kit and new throttle plate
OEM intake block, gaskets and screws
OEM air filter & horn
Oregon rim sprocket (later style)
Nachi bearings and new crank seals
Orings for the oil pump outlet and crank seal holders (let me know if anyone needs these, I have a bunch)
Top cover
Replacement trigger

I'm adding pics in a few min.

Does anyone know if these 1988 version saws have mufflers that come apart? I can't get this muffler to split!

I'd need to see a pic of the muffler to know if you can split it. There's an early type you can pull apart and a later sealed unit, based on what I can see yours is the sealed unit.

@Woodslasher

Cool thank you! I will get some after work.

If this thing is sealed, how do folks go about getting the baffles, rust, ect out? I have never had to mess with a sealed muffler.

All I did to my sealed muffler was open up the outlet under the deflector, grind the "teeth" off, and that worked fine. As for cleaning it, I dunno. I don't really think those mufflers are really baffled/restricted, that's usually just later saws.

@Woodslasher - I really can’t tell if this thing is sealed. It has a very restrictive baffle in the middle like the earlier 61 but that one popped right apart.

The AM one I used for my 61 was brazed, I had to drill it out from the intake port.

That looks sealed to me, some of this style had a baffle and some were an open can

Swiss cheese the baffle with a drill

The baffle is an entire plate that divides the whole section with a small port in it, do you think getting what I can through the port will be enough?

Thanks @davidwyby !

I messaged a few aftermarket ebay sellers about the "early style" or "old type" mufflers they sell. Surprisingly they got back pretty quick. Most are sealed and baffled. Good news is I did find one seller that claims his is open/no baffle and that it comes apart. I am going to give it a try for $19 shipped. See link below if anyone needs one....I would suggest letting mine come in before buying just in case seller was wrong. I will update here when it does.

I was only going to knock the bearing out and clean the case halves last night but, I got on a roll. Bottom end is done!

Oh and I bought another 61 to build since I have enough parts to do another up as a 272. These are fun saws to build.

Here is the other 61 I bought. I think it actually might be the same year 1988. Which is great because they have the fine thread clutch end. Those are a lot easier to find clutches for if needed. Pre 86 is coarse thread.

Did 1 of your saws have a bent crank? The pic with cases showing some broken areas on the fw side sure looked like it.
