Anyone try a husky 50 piston in a 45mm 350 cyl?
Other than dished vs flat, there doesn’t seem to be a difference.

Hi I got a 285CD that has lost spark..I look at the kill switch wire and I was in very bad shape. I knew that had to be the problem.Got the flywheel off and very carefully replaced the wire. Put it all back together and guess what no spark. Took it back apart and replaced the plug wire. It looks pretty rough. All back together no spark. Does anybody have any suggestions on how this could be fixed besides replacing the whole ignition? I know the ignitions are really hard to find. I have checked around so far and have found none. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I greatly appreciate it.

After replacing the wires, did you meter them to make sure they have continuity and ground out like they should with the on/off switch in the off position? Have you cleaned the coil, gotten all the crud off of it's metal surfaces and cleaned the flywheel too? Verify spacing between coil and flywheel are correct? Have you tried another spark plug, or the one in question in another device where you can see if it will spark?

I replaced the ground wire but did not hook it up to the switch. This saw is rebuilt clean. I will check that stuff tomorrow . Thank you for the reply

Can you guys tell me what chip to get and the wiring.I am guessing one of the chip wire goes to the little wire come out of the coil? Where does the other wire go? to ground.Why did you put the red silicone on the plate? And the last question is where to get the chip? I like that set up a lot.

I think the red silicone (permatex) is there just to protect the solder joints from corroding down the road.

Good evening everyone I am in dire need of a ignition coil for my 1980’s 285CD HUSQVARNA chainsaw. I have looked high and dry and there was a guy selling one brand new a year or so ago just curious if anyone still knows where I can get one. My person email is Hitekrednek78@hotmail.com. I am willing to pay too dollar as this is my old girl but runs like no other saw I have. Thank you very much everyone.

Hey I have had good luck with the Bosch ignition using a transistor chip to replace the trigger. This is what I do on my dolmar ones

Yes, that is what I think he is referring to and the chip used with this mod.

That was me. If the foggy sail repair does not work this usually does unless the coil is bad which is pretty rare only had it happen to like 2 of them. If you don't have a points flywheel you have to slot the timing holes a lot like this one. But it's simple cut all the old junk off besides coil. Connect one side of chip to coil one side to ground and kill switch goes with coil wire I think can't 100 percent remember. I simply used the silicone to hold the wires down because I get it for free

Now I will have to check out the coil next, as this doesn't tell me which part of the system has failed.

I was just thinking I should order some of those capacitors as well, as I've a couple of Kawasaki type, one wire modules coming.
I can see the advantage of not having to advance the timing slots, which is the only variable for me not knowing just exactly how far to go, especially since it already has a bit of advance in the keyway already. I'm sure @mirage would like to just install it and be done.
First some research is necessary to determine if there are numbers I can put to testing the coil by itself. I'm going to guess that it is much the same as a points and condenser Bosch coil as there's no other way I can think of yet.

I might have some capacitors. Also if you use the chip you will have to advance it a lot I believe it is the same coil on the Bosch points and condenser ignition as these because you can swap the coils from either and they still work

Thanks, but, I just fired off on buying a couple of them. Also, have another theory in the works, if I find it's viable, I'll pass it on.
