I have a 455 and a 562xp and never any problems. I just wanted to say that I'm a new member today and I'm very happy so far, someone has already helped me. Other places I can't even get an answer so this is home now. I tore up my shoulder a couple of years ago and had surgery. My surgeon said it's one of the worst he'd ever seen. My 562 XP is just been sitting in the garage lonely. Since my surgeon said no more yanking chainsaws with the right arm I've been looking for a way to get it started with my left. I've been wondering about compression release mods lately and wow the first thing I saw on your site is a simple solution. I've been a machinist all my life and something like this is right up my alley. I just wanted to thank you all so much because a tremendous weight has been taken off my shoulders. Now I can get my saw going and move off grid. Many thanks to all.

Wow, yeah that is a safe bet! I was working on a 562xp. The first saw to beat me. Purge bulb would not cycle fuel when hooked up to the carb, but would when connected directly to the fuel line. I replaced the diaphragms in the carb, even used clear nail polish around the seams to block any potential air leaks and nothing, carb still makes a high pitch whistle when using the purge bulb. It was frustrating.

I have a 562 XP and it kind of worries me to hear stories like this. I haven't had mine apart yet even to change a plug so I'm wondering does that have the plastic intake manifold ? You say that it runs hot so if it has the plastic intake maybe it could be slightly warped from the Heat causing an air leak. That's just a wild guess. I work more on motorcycles and cars than chainsaws but they're all basically the same thing. Glorified air pumps. Good luck.

I just had another thought. Maybe the whistle is not coming from the carb but the purge bulb.

It's easy to start a chainsaw with your left arm. That is, in fact, the way I start all my saws. Just watch any "Bucking billy ray" video and you will see how....

I just had another thought. Maybe the whistle is not coming from the carb but the purge bulb.

I thought about that, replaced the purge bulb and had the same issue. I direct connected the purge bulb circuit to the fuel line (bypassed the carb) and it cycled fuel like a champ. I put the carb back in line and it starts whistling and starts sucking air from some where.

Time for a new carb. I've come a across a 555 that did that. The purge bulb would suck 80% of air and only a little bit of fuel. I was thinking the electronic valve was stuck.

That sounds about right...I pulled that off and it appeared that the rest of the carb was moving fuel fine, but with that part being a sealed unit, hard to tell what is going on inside. I may just take it off again and bang on the module to see if something changes. I can't hurt anything, it is broken/not working at this point. I may have to pry it open just to see what is inside.

When you put on your new carb, did you have to take it to the repair shop to get the saw flashed or did it just accept the new carb?

The shop asked the saw’s serial number. I didn’t take the saw to the shop.

That's strange. Now my curiosity is piqued. I'm going to have to take the cover off my saw and start looking at it.

Yeah I've seen that, but I'm in my mid-60s and about half his size. Something that really helps me though is doing dumbbell rows with the same movement as pulling the starter cord. But I'm going to do that compression release mod that someone here told me about.

You sound like me. " Pry it open just to see". Remember that curiosity killed the cat, and Murphy's Law is just waiting to bite you in the behind. Some of my " just to see " adventures don't turn out so well. When you get the thing apart post some pics so I don't have to tear mine apart. Hahahaha.

I kno what pho means. Skip , you ever run into nice husqvarna 2100's That's not used commercially, and not fell off a logging truck. Thanks Buck , in n.c.

@cus_deluxe explained it back in a 2019 post... the short of is, the NE had a larger piston and made more power than the standard xp. It appears people refereed to "NE" as "new edition", though Husqvarna probably used different terminology.

they had to go to strato technology for emissions reasons would be my guess. the first 346 was 42mm and is great for limbing and small stuff, but the NE was 44.3mm and just makes more power. they put cat mufflers on some the smaller saws in the 3-series for a bit and called them e-tech.

As for nice 2100s not commercially used and not fallen off of a logging truck....very few and far between. Most of the ones posted around here have been around the block and seen some action.

Pick up this glorious legend low hour machine yesterday, One of my favorite Huskies ,

@Squareground3691 picked up a nice low hour one recently, so they are out there...just have to be scouring eBay, Marketplace, Craig's List and the forums. The one I have fell out of a turnip truck, was run over a logging truck and tossed out at the dump. I have spent almost two years getting parts, getting repairs and it back together. Finally got to fire it up this week, still have a carb/fuel line/impulse issue, but it does fire up with fuel down the carb.

Customer came in today with a 254 I'd worked on late last year, said it wasn't strong in the cut...and smoking...

I adjusted the carburetor to 1-1/4 turns out on both H and L, started the saw and it was quite rich, tried turning them leaner and it didn't get any better.

Remove the carburetor, metering lever is just a bit high, lowered it maybe 0.015".

Took a close look at the (mesh) air filter, a bit dirty??? Light did not pass through so I used compressed air to give it a thorough cleaning and the saw was restored to normal operation.

Customer - "I don't think the air filter was very dirty..."

They hope that it is something bad enough to not cost very much, but not too bad that it does. Something simple like cleaning a filter is a hard pill to swallow when you are paying mechanic's fees. But for some with money, they don't care, if it costs them $50 to get an air filter changed, they will more than happily pay it and probably buy something else on their way out.

Customer - "I don't think the air filter was very dirty..."

Happened to me on the fuel filter. Saw would occasionally run lean under load. Very hard to diagnose these occasionally problems. Turns out the fuel filter that look still white is clogged with VERY FINE wood dust that you cant even blow or suck by mouth!
