Not familiar with the model, but I'll share my worthless opinion nonetheless.

Don't touch any port until you time the entire thing.

Don't raise the exhaust until you know where it is. I'd likely leave it completely alone in terms of height. Widen it, yes. If you wanna make a firewood slug that's got lots of rpm and cuts pine cookies fast, then raise it. You want the torque.

Don't raise the factory uppers, you're likely to make the saw run worse. Remember, the factory timed the saw with the restrictive exhaust. You want less transfer time, not more, when you uncork the exhaust. Otherwise you will over scavenge and waste fuel. Keeping the transfers physically lower allows some more intake with an equal amount of case compression.

Again, not familiar with the model. Other than a bit of sanding smooth, don't reshape the "restrictive" parts of the tunnels. Most of the time, they are there for a reason. Reshaping those is an art in and of itself and isn't a porting 101 job. That part gets very advanced and if you do it wrong, you'll likely make the saw worse.

I applaud your efforts and zeal attacking the saw. It's sad to admit but with porting, many times, less is more. Try to exersize some restraint and you'll get a better result.

You may have forgot about this thread when you made your statement.

I did forget about that thread...nice work. Where we differ is in build requirements. My father in law has no intention of running a bar that big and if he needs to (doubtful) he can borrow my ported 372. I kept things simple, everything is done except the MM, I have to pick up a deflector from my brother when he gets home. I'm also hoping to score a non CAT muffler at my local dealer tomorrow.

The build wasn't for that size of bar. I actually asked him to bring it in with a shorter bar because I didn't have one at the time to fit it. Hell he was running it stock that way. Lol

I didn't change the transfer timing numbers on the one from the thread I did. I only compensated for the gasket delete. I raised the exhaust about 2 degrees beyond. The real gain was from more flow with less turbulence and i agree you're right on track with your ideas.

Kinda reinforces my decision to just do the base gasket delete on my 359 and call it good. It has great torque. Think it came in at 175-180 psi compression if I remember correct.

I seem to remember it pumping up to right around there.

Nice thread.

Numbers do look pretty good. Where did the squish end up?

You have motivated me to finish my 359 with 357 top end..

Thank you

Squish only came down to .030. Thus further illustrating my limitations to do a complete job without a lathe. This saw has more potential than I can unleash without the equipment...annoys me:BangHead:
