Special thanks to @srcarr52 and @Moparmyway for the repairs over the years. Thanks to @drf256 as well for help and advice and of course @Glock37 for the powder work.

That said...im doing some welding! They aren't super pretty ....but I'm trying to revive some of these crankcases back to functional.

One common issue on these is the rash on the pto side that wrecks the positioning bushing that helps hold the 288xp clutch cover in alignment. Not a crucial part but a pet peeve of mine to see these not fixed.

Also....on the 181s....there is no hole .... so ya gotta make one

So....weld it up!

Then grind it and drill it...

After a little more grinding and powder this will be more solid than stock.

Another one....

Nope...I mean 12 amps. I have a tiny tungsten with a 5 cup... clean on 50% iirc.

No point in putting a tip on the tungsten. It balls up immediately with this stuff. Its super porous... but once you get some kind of a puddle you can add the filler and start laying a bead.

Anything other than pure tungsten shouldn't ball up unless you are putting too much amperage through it.

Depending on the balance, but I prefer 2% lanth or CK LaYZr for holding shape on low balance high cleaning weld jobs.
